My ex finally admitted he had herpes. not sure if i have it but im very scared.

My ex and i have maintained a good relationship since we broke up in september. He finally admitted that he has herpes after 5 years of me knowing him. I think i may have had an initial outbreak but im not sure. Shortly after we started dating i was hospitalized with nausea and i was severely disoriented and weak. I also had burning when i urinated not only in my urethra but on my labia as well and they were very red and swollen. I was diagnosed with a uti and the doc said my spots and soreness could be from friction from prolonged intercourse. I had spots on my outer labia that werent blisters but large non painful lumps almost like cysts or pimples and quite a few but they never got crusty or popped just turned into dark scar like circles then went away. I dont remember if the doctor tested me while i was in the er but i asked multiple times if he thought it was herpes and he said it didnt look like it. But now thinking back im scared that was my first outbreak. Ive had small lumps that looked like it may be H but im not sure it was an outbreak as it is usually one solid lump and goes away in a few hours with no breaking open. Im just so scared and so worried that i do have it and how to tell my current and future sexual partners if i do wind up having it.

First - welcome! Glad you found us...

 

Your first order of the day is to get to either your OBGYN or Planned Parenthood and get tested. It can be hard to distinguish Herpes from regular irritation if you don't get the OB's. And witting wondering won't do you any good - once you have a diagnosis or you get the all clear you will be able to figure out what your course of action will be.

 

As far as how to tell partners, we have a TON of successful disclosures on here (I'll add links below) so you can see that there IS life after Herpes diagnosis and it can often include a H- partner. I've had it since I was 17 (I'm 52 now) and besides a few messy disclosures my life has been very normal ;)

 

You will find a lot of support on here and we are here to answer your questions... but do get tested... the imagination is a terrible thing ... once you know your status we can help you through the adjustment period if necessary

Thanks i have an ob appointment in the morning and i made sure to tell them i have been exposed. Should be getting my results whithin this week im just very worried because we had been together almost 5 years before i found out. As far as what ive read it is possible i dont have it even though we didnt use protection. But thank you for the links i will definitely be checking them out.
