First outbreak and I think I'm Starting My Period...

Recommended Posts

Hello, recently found out I have herpes...(feels weird even typing it). I got on medication and am trying to keep it dry (my Dr. told me to keep it dry to heal my sores) and I come to see that I might be starting my period!! How does this work during an outbreak? it feels better than the first couple days (last wed I believe 06/11) but still I'm not sure what to use. I usually have a diva cup that i out up there but I'm not sure if i should even do that...do i just go back to the old school way and use pads? Help please! :(

Hello and welcome!

You can use whatever you want and whatever works for you...certainly the diva cup is a good way to help keep the area dry (your Dr was right there ;) ).

You may find that your period triggers OB's because of the surge of hormones and resulting stress on the body.... but over time even that will have less impact on OB's.

Try these methods (below) to help the OB heal ... and check out the FAQ section

and the disclosure handouts

and use the Search bar to look for more ideas...there are lots of great hints on here that people have used ...you need to find what works for you ... but this will be a good start ;)

Go Commando as much as possible - getting air to the area can help to dry it out more quickly

Reduce stress as much as possible - Herpes feeds off stress!!! It can become a good barometer for you that your body needs attention in some form or other

Look up Trigger Foods/triggers on here in the FAQ and search bar - lots of topics on them ... the main foods are chocolate and nuts but you want to learn about the Lysine/Argenine balance that can help keep Herpes under control

Epsom Salts baths can do wonders for some. Sit in the bath and dump a few handfuls of the salts right between your legs. Relax and let the salts do their thing then get out and dry off, finishing with a blow drier set on low heat to really get the area dry.

These 4 things seem to do the most help for the most people. Aloe Vera CREAM (make sure ALOE is one of the first ingredients and there isn't a bunch of other crap like petroleum and if it has glycerine, it's AFTER the Aloe in the ingredients .. go to a Health food store for your best chance of getting a good product) or Zinc cream may help during the day to keep it from sticking and help relieve the pain ..

Thank you so much for the info! It definitely helped! I am still staying positive in all this. I recently left my bf (for other personal reason) and am now single. I'm still trying to stay positive in the relationship aspect of this. Although every now an then I feel so scared in telling someone one day. even if its in a positive way it just sucks. My Dr. gave me meds for a year I haven't been taking it regularly so i have a slight outbreak but i think it was because of my period a couple weeks ago. I'm not sure if I want to take meds because I'm afraid my body will rely on it and not build the immunity it needs to fight off OB naturally. Ive also have seen other discussion forums on here saying to take the meds when you are in a relationship, why is this?

Also I have been told by the dr that i have G-hsv1 when i had my first major outbreak i had symptoms of really dry skin on the back of my ears and almost like dehydrated lips. Does this mean i might also have it in my mouth? I never broke out there, even when my major first outbreak happened down under..

can i still share drinks (even with straws)? utensils? Ive been avoiding these things with family and friends.

Thanks again!

Much love!
