Will the frequency of my outbreaks ever decrease? :/

Recommended Posts

Diagnosed almost 4.5 years ago with GHSV1. Had my initial episode and a second outbreak 11 months later. Around 6 months after that OB I had two OBs about 3 weeks apart. After this I went for nearly 2 years with no outbreaks. Then I got into a relationship and decided to start taking birth control- about two days after starting birth control I had an outbreak. I then continued to have at least one outbreak per month (sometimes 2 per month) until I stopped about 4 months after starting. I then went another 11 months without one, but just had three in the past month and a half! Could anyone help shed some light on what's going on? I feel like they're never going to decrease in frequency and that's really disheartening. Any tips that you have for me? Thanks so much!

Birth control pills / injections / devices can trigger outbreaks. So can sex.

Change up the brand of birthcontrol and see if that doesn't help. Also, if you haven't already, talk to your doctor about supression medication like valacyclovir.

Diet, exercise and sleep, too. If you aren't already on top of that stuff.
