Never had one suggest this. Did you find them through ifm.org? If you didn't then there's probably a reason why.

I haven't had one suggest acupuncture or any other alternative therapies. The doc I'm seeing only suggested lab work to get to the root cause of the neurological symptoms I experiencing and even told me not to worry about the costs because her office had a deal with labcorp. Find a doctor that is interested in your health and won't waste your time. Again, I only recommend finding a doctor through ifm.org. There are all sorts of people out there calling themselves functional medicine doctors.

Yes, they are through the site you suggested

And I take it these symptoms are reocurring - meaning they come and go like herpes? When you have symptoms how long does it take to go away and do you know what triggers it?

Well find a functional medicine doctor that's also an obgyn if you can.

And make sure you find them from this site https://www.ifm.org/find-a-practitioner/

Otherwise, you may run into these chiropractors that are practicing functional medicine on the site and charging an arm and a leg for lab work.

They do come and go,  but some symptoms have never gone away since developing.

Eating sugar and citrus sets off some of these - possibly. I’m still not sure.

Have you been tested? If not, when are you getting tested?

No acne issues outside the norm. I did get two whiteheads since and they went away after making dietary changes.

My tinnitus also went away after making changes, came back for two days but it was not as annoying as when it first happened and then it went away again. First outbreak happened on December 26th and the symptoms that followed didn't start happening until AFTER the first outbreak.

Read up on leaky gut syndrome and see if it resonates with you and go from there. If your immune system was compromised before you caught herpes, herpes will likely make things really bad for you. My doc says once you're infected with a virus the immune system becomes very sensitive. It's not the herpes that is causing those symptoms, it's your immune system asking you to give it a moment to let it heal. She said herpes is a virus that works to supress the immune system and it's not that I became allergic to foods all the sudden, it's my immune system being sensitive and responding with inflammation. Food sensitivity is a sign that something's going on your gut. If you do have herpes, don't worry. You'll be fine, really.

Tested, yes - negative, but I continue to have symptoms aligned with herpes. No medications have helped and not one doctor has been able to explain why my body is breaking out in weird symptoms all at once.

Every medicine for this or that has not worked, and I’ve heard “I don’t know what’s happening” from a handful of doctors.

This all started after unprotected oral and vaginal sex. Girl I was with said she might have HSV, she tested negative, but days after sex I broke out in scattered, itchy red bumps on my groin. Another girl I dated caught the same thing and other odd symptoms that we both had at the same time.

The girl who caused all this said she gets frequent yeast infections, which is a sign that someone could have herpes

I told myself that I would take the holistic approach to this thing. Lysine, vitamin c..etc Little did I know I was in for one hell of a ride.

My first outbreak lasted a whole three weeks and then I got another and another. The second and third outbreak was so minimal I didn't even care BUT the neurological symptoms I experienced was what drove me nuts. With each outbreak (with exception of the first), I experienced rapid heartbeat,  tinnitus, blurry vision, tingling in my arms, muscle spasms, what seemed like sinus headache, tension headaches, dry eyes, muscle weakness in my legs, burning sensations on my back...etc.

I also noticed I developed a food sensitivity of some sort - could no longer eat bread, wheat..etc? Every time i did my mouth would start tingling and my throat would get itchy. Sensations I've never experience before contracting herpes.

That was my wakeup call. I started scouring the internet and came across some videos on anti-inflammatory diets. The next day, I got rid of all the junk foods in my pantry and went shopping for whole foods - fruits, veggies, legumes..etc and pretty much changed my diet. Yup, overnight.  I also was sure to grab some probiotics, vitamins, l-gluatmine pills (for gut health)..etc. I'm 5'7, 188 lbs and figured since i can't cure herpes, I can at least help my immune system fight this thing and lose some weight in the process.

A few days into my diet, I noticed very little difference in my symptoms but I felt "lighter" and the pimples I had on my skin were clearing up. On the 28th, i woke up with a tension headache still and called my doctor. She said my symptoms were "very normal" and that the virus works to suppress the immune system and that I should consider getting on antivirals for at least the first year. I started Valtrex on the same day and guys my symptoms are mostly gone. I still have the tinnitus but it's so subtle.

Ohh and it's been a week since I changed my diet and not only does my skin look amazing, i'm FINALLY losing weight!

Just wanted to say if you're experiencing weird neurological symptoms, consider an anti-inflammatory diet for a few months and antivirals. You may not get rid of all your symptoms but it's already made a HUGE difference.

I’m not diagnosed with herpes, but have been having very similar symptoms after unprotected sex and oral.

I get daily headaches, tinnitus, dry eyes, hand and arm tingling, food sensitivity, and other symptoms that mimick herpes. People tell me I don’t have herpes, but nothing else ticks the boxes like herpes does.

Do you also get a lot of acne since contracting herpes?

How long after you were infected did your symptoms happen? How long did it take for your first outbreak?

So I just joined this group but up until a little while back I only got the papercuts.. I didn't realize it was herpes. I thought I had scratched myself or that somehow the top of my vagina had torn. It was always in the same place. This last year I was under a ton of stress a lot of bad things happened and I had my first actual sores come up. I had been having what i thought were yeast infections so the first time it happened i thought I had clawed myself and it had gotten infected. This last time I realized it was in the same place and it was really painful so I decided to get checked. It turns out I had herpes for years and just didn't have the normal symptoms. I also dont get the clustered sores. Just sores that look like ulcers..

    How were you diagnosed?

A lot of these don't scream herpes and having them all in conjunction and without a cycle of outbreaks and full abatement also doesn't.  I mean you've got herpes on your groin, herpes on your penis, herpes on the outside of your mouth, herpes inside your mouth, herpes on your eyes, herpes on your butt, and herpes in your central nervous system. And the symptoms don't really come and go, there is always something happening. Like, you don't go a few weeks without any symptoms. That's some powerful herpes. Not only that, but this powerful herpes is undetectable by tests that detect herpes. Next level, all the time/everywhere herpes with stealth power.

What is does scream to me, and to at least a couple of the doctors that you've spoken with, is health anxiety, which I recognize because I also suffer from it. You sound like a guy with a rash, dry skin, canker sores and bad case of hypochondriasis.

I assure you this is not being created in my head. How can I create my own short term memory loss, constant headaches, confusion and hearing loss?

That's because you don't have herpes.

I’m trying to believe it,  but the symptoms I have match herpes.

    Itchy, red bumps in groin.

Brain fog, confusion,  headaches, hard time focusing and recalling information  (made worse by eating sugar)

Tingling in the nerves of my hands, legs, and feet

    Lip constantly chapped and cut

Small cuts on penis shaft with occasional peeling skin

    Constant itching in my anus

Loss of hearing and a fullness of the ear

    Blisters on gums

    Tingling in lips

    Discoloration of penis glans

    Constant fatigue

Eye pain and constant dry eyes.

    Itchy skin on butt checks

Red, sore skin on corners of lips.

Constant  zits breaking out on forehead with certain spots of throbbing pain

What about any of this does not scream herpes?

Just wanted to share my symptoms and see if they are consistent with anyone else’s HSV symptoms

So about 9 weeks ago I had unprotected vaginal sex and briefly received oral sex. The next day I noticed redness and irritation at my urethral opening. Followed by moderate itching and discomfort in the entire groin area. This discomfort was bothersome for about  4 weeks and lotion nor ibuprofen helped, yet there was never any real rash (however I noticed the urethral opening was somewhat swollen and the penile head skin was periodically red and looked dry). During which time I tested negative twice for chlamydia, gonorrhea, HIV, and common bacteria that cause UTI. This doctor did not recommend testing for hsv without sores.

At around 5 weeks I saw a new doctor that performed a prostate exam, since there was discomfort while sitting and exercising and sensitivity in the perineum area, which was also found to be negative . He decided to do an igg blood test to see if it was in fact herpes. The results were negative with <.01 for type 1 and .09 for type 2. He did not seem concerned that this was too early to test (even though I’ve read that you can get false negatives until about 3 months).

A few days after his exam I got what appeared to be the flu (sore throat with bumps at the back of tongue, back ache, fatigue, no fever). This lasted for about a week, yet the sore throat and bumps at the back of tongue continues today. The on and off genital itching and discomfort continued for a few more weeks, so I decided to see another doctor.

This doctor was more experienced and concluded that it was a yeast infection that was causing the discomfort and I likely got a common flu/cold a few weeks ago (especially since my roommates had gotten sick and I am a university student). She also had a pretty strong opinion about not testing for herpes without sores and recommended against retesting. I have since been applying clotrimazole for about a week and a half. It seems to have helped a little with the itching and discomfort, but not completely. In addition, a new symptom has surfaced which has led me to believe more and more that this is herpes. I have numbness/tingling like feeling around my left lower leg/ankle (maybe a new side effect of my ankle surgery 4 months ago?) and there is a shooting pain in the back of my leg when I lift either leg as if to kick.

I feel like except for not having sores, these symptoms are consistent with hsv. The only visible skin irritation I’ve been able to find has been redness around my anus, which I noticed about 6 weeks ago after a detailed inspection. This redness hasn’t had any itch or pain and I haven’t seen any fissures or blisters (I have had hemorrhoids in the past, and think it could be this again). I am pretty paranoid about this and have had a hard time letting it go. I’m even worried I’ve been so obsessed that I have herpes I have made symptoms worse!

I’ve had the same problems and continue to have them and more.

Any and all tests come back negative for me.

I have HSV 2 inside of my mouth and throat from oral sex with my boyfriend- he didn’t know he had herpes and did not have symptoms. It is possible. It’s possible to get it and to never have oral symptoms. It just depends on the persons immune system etc

    What does it look/feel  like?

they’re only on my lips, usually would be on the bottom lip! it would move sides every few days, no raised skin or redness, but if i ran my tounge over it it would taste/feel like a tiny abrasion like i scratched it? sometimes i thought i did have a tiny scratch but if i put aquaphor on it its been healed the next day.

sometimes if i get too nervous i would take lyisne pills or put lysine cream on it but im not sure if it works or if by doing this im just stopping any cold sore from coming up?? so i dont know whats going on

    Me too!

I always have chapped/tiny cuts on my upper lip only. I also developed tiny white bumps on my upper lip that developed after I had the flu.

The girl I was dating also developed the bumps, but she doesn't have chapped lips/cuts like I do.

I know the feeling. I've avoided my doctor because I felt that he really did not know about herpes. Why else would he order a blood test so soon without the thought of a follow-up blood test? Luckily (and unluckily) for me, there is google.

I still have some symptoms that I can't explain. Well, the only explanation is herpes. I've spent so many hours of my free time researching herpes and I have looked at more pictures of infected male genitalia than I care to admit. Like really.... a lot of male genitalia.

Honestly, I'm afraid to have hope. Hope will only make the "Positive" results that much more difficult to accept.

But keep your head up, regardless of the diagnosis, we'll all be here for you (unless it's negative, then we may never see you again lol). Remember, perseverance defines your character and life is far from over.

Have you tested positive? If so, how and how long after initial infection did you find out?

Thank you both! I woke up this morning and it was definitely a pimple.

And blurneworder - yes, if I stretch the skin on my top lip I can see the white bumps. Fordyce spots, right?

The reason I ask is because I was with someone who might of had HSV.

A few months later myself and the girl I was dating came down with the flu and eventually developed tingling on our upper lips. We both had white bumps show up beneath our lips.

I still get the tingling and my upper lip is always chapped/cut.

i have not tested positive for HSV through blood, but I keep having symptoms similar to those who do have HSV.

Did you have those spots before or after you had HSV?

I was diagnosed with HSV2 after having issues with itchy skin ON MY FACE! 😞 It took multiple trips to the dermatologist and a random check up with my primary (I SAID CHECK FOR EVERYTHING! I MEAN EVERYTHING! All labs and all STDs) I thought I had some wierd skin condition. I never in a million years imagined I would test positive for HSV. Needless to say, I think failure to diagnose early on led me to unknowingly spreading the virus to other areas of my body. I feel like a walking germ. I use to sleep naked now I sleep in socks, pj pants, preferably long sleeve shirts. I’m scared to touch my own skin. I’m  scared to be touched or to touch anyone. I feel like crap everytime I see people touch in person/tv.

Has anyone experienced HSV in this way? Facial, extremity, scalp, etc? How are you sure it’s hsv and not a normal bump or itch?

People use to compliment me on my skin ALL THE TIME! now I’m super aware that it’s all stopped. I also feel like it’s aged my skin.

(Important to note that to date I’ve only had super dry skin on my face, swelling and 3 super small Whitehead like bumps but the itchiness is ungodly!)

Hsv stresses me out > the stress from the hsv causes my hsv to flare. The thing that stresses me requires that I be stress free in order for it to potentially get better. What kinda sick cycle is this!

How long did you have these problems before you were tested? Do you know how long you had HSV for?

It seems like blood work no matter what is hard for this virus. My Doctor even after a positive swab talked me out of getting it done since it's not very accurate and the swab should be good enough for a diagnosis. Before hand I had noticed that I was never tested for it and they all repeatedly acted like "it's probably better if you don't know" which I think is bullshit but I won't get into my opinions on doctors. A lot of what you describe is similar to my symptoms below the belt but as I stated before I don't have it orally, which I find it extremely odd that your symptoms you are describing are affecting both areas. I do truly believe the mind has a way of making you sick and bringing about symptoms when worrying. I once convinced myself I had a brain tumor and all the symptoms that came with it vanished after finding out I didn't have one. Made me realize how insane that was afterwords and I feel pretty stupid but it seemed so real at the time.

I get what you mean by worrying you'll infect others... I think that's the worst part of all this. But I've kinda just learned to deal with it. In my case I've had it all of my life so after figuring that out it was a lot more comforting that not a lot is going to change. IMO I would only go get swabs and more tests done if it's physically affecting your daily life so you can get on medication to help with it. In my case, the valc works good, no symptoms when I take it however I do get really tired and major brain fog from the meds themselves. So I just stay off of them unless I'm dating someone that really pushes it.

I had unprotected vaginal and oral with this person, which makes me thing I have HSV in my mouth and genitals.

Have you ever had an external open lesion or blister that was swabbed?

What is similar and dissimilar about my and your symptoms below the belt?
