  1. I was wondering if there is anyway to tell if you have having internal (vaginal) outbreaks? I hadon't the start of a prodrome Monday night, so I doubled my valtrex for the next 3 days. It was a tingly sensation in a spot where I've had an outbreak before, and sensitive skin on the back of my upper thigh. No swollen lady bits like I've had a few times in the past. The prodrome went away within 24 hours. Started Monday night and was gone by Wednesday morning. I took double valtrex Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday. I also had BV at this time, so I took antibiotics I have on hand for it as I do get it semi frequently. During this time I had a lot of watery discharge (probably the bv), an "awareness" of a burning feeling around the outside of my vagina (burning is probably a bad word cause it wasn't painful, just a feeling I was aware of) and somewhat of an urgency to urinate, like a mild uti. The last 3 symptoms lasted until Friday morning. The antibiotics cleared up the symptoms of BV. I remember when I first started valtrex I had that weird feeling around my vagina until I was taking the medication for a while. I've never doubled up on my valtrex before until this week and that's when I got the feeling again. Is this a side effect of Valtrex? Are any of these signs of an internal outbreak? I had absolutely no external lesions, and haven't in almost 3 years. I'm nervous because I did wait the recommended 3 days before sex after a prodrome resolved, but now I am nervous about the possibly of an internal outbreak :/
  2. Hi all. It's been a long time since I've posted here! Long story short I have hsv2 (found out 5 years ago) and I'm in a relationship. I take daily suppressive therapy and haven't had an outbreak in over two years, and have only experienced prodromes a couple times. One of those times is now. My boyfriend and I don't use condoms. We very briefly had sex yesterday (TMI it was brief because I thought my period was over... it was not!) So after about 13 seconds of sex, we get into the shower and wash off. I noticed after I had a little tingly feeling, and today it feels like prodrome. Tingly, sensitive skin. I took my daily dose of Valtrex and they already seem to be nearly gone, a little more than 24 hours later. So my question is what everyone in a relationship wants to know, what are the chances that I passed the virus on to him?
  3. The same thing happened to me with my giver. He blamed it on me and made me feel like crap, and I was too upset to go to the doctor and get it confirmed. But I never had an OB until a few days after sleeping with him.
  4. I'm not going to lie, I had to have a few glasses of wine before I got the nerve to tell my boyfriend! And I just blurted it out, cause the more I thought about it the more anxious I got. If you're meeting his son he must already be really into, so disclosing to him will only bring you closer. Just be prepared with all the facts if he asks questions. I will definitely be thinking about you. You can do it!
  5. Congrats!! I'm so happy for you. I wish I had a fraction of your strength and bravery. It takes a truly special person to be able to do that. I'm so glad you're getting nothing but support. It makes those of us still in the H closet feel a little better :-)
  6. Hello! So I was in the same boat as you almost 2 months ago. I met an amazing man a few months ago, we clicked instantly, and as soon as I met him I knew I needed to know him more. He is very mature, understanding, and kind. So obviously I was terrified to tell him. I eased into it by asking him about STDs when our relationship started getting a little too hot and heavy. He said he didn't have anything, and I told him that I had HSV2, and I got it from an ex that didn't tell me/didn't know he had it. I told him the facts, and he was very receptive to it all. And his response was something along the lines of "So what, I'm still going to love you anyway." I was overjoyed!!!! So here we are, 2 months later, and we are head over heels in love with each other. And Herpes has not gotten in the way of anything ;-). He does ask me questions from time to time, and I'm always honest with him. I really believe I have found my soulmate :-) Good luck to you, and please let us know what happens! There is definitely love after herpes!
  7. Wow thanks! I didn't even think of that, but it makes sense! I'll have to call tomorrow. Thanks! You just made me feel much better lol :)
  8. Hey guys! I've been on valacyclovir for almost 2 months for suppressive purposes because I'm in a new relationship. Before taking it, I got maybe 3 outbreaks a year, always in the same place. I started to recognize my prodromes pretty well (I've had herpes for 3 years) and knew when I was going to have an outbreak. Well now it seems like I'm having prodromes all the time! But it feels like burning (which honestly could be from sex lol), instead of itchy (which is typical for me) and not in a specific area, but everywhere 'down there'! I did just finish antibiotics for BV (lucky me) which had me awfully itchy as well, but the burning is still there. Has anyone experienced prodomes more frequently AFTER starting meds? Basically I think I'm just being SUPER paranoid about passing it to my boyfriend. I just find it odd that my body had a pretty good handle on it ( my obs were infrequent and would clear up in 7 to 10 days) and have these possible prodromes AFTER starting valacyclovir. Thanks for any feedback/reassurance :-)

  10. So beautifully written!! I'm so happy for you. I also disclosed about a month ago to my boyfriend, and we're still so happy and completely head over heels for each other. And it hasn't impacted our sex life at all! ;-) To everyone who feels like they're doomed to the single life forever, its NOT true at all!
  11. I so admire your bravery. I wish I had half of your strength! Truly inspiring
  12. Wow that's insane. I have a state job and thank the Lord our insurance is amazing because I pay $5 for a month of valacyclovir. On my receipt it said it would have been $367 without insurance. Its not right that they cost so much! Then again, they're not the ones who have to live with it!
  13. No not at all. I was just curious mostly because I'm paranoid. I just started seeing someone who knows I have it, and I'm really scared of giving it to him. I'm on valtrex now, and taking every precaution.
  14. Hey guys! So I know all about the rates of transmission, but I was curious if anyone knew what the rate of transmission is DURING an outbreak. Is it pretty much a 100% guarantee it'll be passed on? Thanks!
  15. Hey guys! I've been looking EVERYWHERE and my own doctor didn't even know the answer. But how long should I wait to have sex after starting suppressive therapy? I've taken 5 days of valtrex at this point. I just want to make sure my boyfriend's as protected as possible. Thanks!!
