  1. Hi everyone I noticed in some other threads that some people have nerve pain and are taking gabapentin. I have nerve pain around my vulvula and vaginal opening. I have been given gabapentin. I presume it is some sort of post herpetic neuropathy Any ideas on how long i can expect this to persist?
  2. I have read that hsv may make you more vulnerable to some bacteria. I struggled with what i thought was bv for years, turned out it was hsv all along. Take a good probiotic for vaginal health. This is the most important thing. I use phemdophillus which my doc recommended. I also have to clean things out after sex as seamen changis the ph, which also makes yiu vulnerable. I use something called waterworks you can get on amazon. I fill with 3/4 water and 1/4 hydrogen peroxide to get the sperm out. Be sure and get regular cultures taken so you dont get confused about whats what. You really need antibiotics to clear bv. It can go untreated if you confuse it for hsv. Be sure they do a full panel. They have found both klebsiella phenomonia and ecoli in my vagina. These dont show up on the standard labs your gyn runs and are treated with a different class of antibiotics. They left me red and irritated as you describe. I hope this helps
  3. I am so sorry you guys are going through this, but so happy to have found you. I have nerve pain too... They say its vulvodynia, not herpes. WTF... Vulvodynia is just nerve pain that they cant figure out!! Why cant they just say its post herpetic neuralgia ?? I have been given gabapentin 3 times a day (100). I find it very sedating so i am just taking one before bed for a week and will try to build up. This is so much more than a little dermatologic inconvenience
  4. I get very tired on valtrex I have read that this goes away eventually
  5. I have no history of kidney problems Super healthy until now
  6. It goes away as soon as i stop the valtrex My urination output seems fine but i do get a very mild discomfort in my kidneys, this might be my imagination
  7. No, no drying ever, I will look up the condition I am not familiar
  8. I havent tried that ine yet I dont go back to my doc for several months (dissapointing). I Will ask about that
  9. Is it normal to have herpes sores that don't hurt or itch or have any feeling whatsoever. I have little bumps, kind of like post-shave bumps on the pubic area, but a little darker with a white pinpoint. They seem just a bit different from the shaving bumps, clustered oddly together. I have constant vaginal and vulvular pain, allegedly vulvodynia but I'm convinced its herpes (or at least vulvodynia that is herpetic neuralgia). Anyway, is it possible for these little bumps to be herpetic yet cause me no pain at the lesion site, but be the cause of the pain at another site (inside labia, entrance to vagina). I know herpes is a nerve problem, and nerves are tricky.....
  10. that's good to know. I cant seem to push through, hence the idea to start at a very low dose.
  11. I worry about my kidneys. When I take Valtrex (or acyclovir), I can do about three days. Then I become so dehydrated that it is intolerable. This is despite drinking copious amounts of water. My lips get chapped and my mouth is dry, I start sucking on my cheeks and tongue (I do this when dehydrated) to the point of causing damage, my teeth begin to hurt, I wake up in the night with a burning throat. This seems weird. I worry that there is some renal effect. When I mentioned this to my doc she seemed non-pulsed, but I had the distinct impression she wasn't listening to me since I had been prattling on about my concerns for some time at that point. I really need to take the anitvirals due to vulvodynia.... but I cant tolerate them.
  12. Sheesh I feel like a crazy person obsessed with my vagina...constantly with the flashlight and mirror Cray :-)
  13. Im so sorry you are going through all this. Unfortunately i dont have any answers for you, but... My herpes is atypical too... Seems to expeess itself in weird ways. I think i am going to see an infectious disease specialist. I think they know more than gyns and pcps, those guys only know about txt book h. I have seen others on forums discussing their visits to the IDS. Its worth a try.
  14. Strange question What does the inside of your labia look like, the tissue inside the lips. Mine is sort of goose fleshish, tiny goose bumps all over. I dont know if they were there pre herpes because i never inspected this close before. Is this goose flesh normal? I tried to take a pic but couldnt really capture it. I dont have obs per se, but i have "nerve pain" The bumps dont hurt or itch ... Just minor goose flesh... I wonder if this is my ob since i dont really get lesions What does the inside of your labia look like when all is normal? 0
  15. With regard to the shedding question: I think asymptomatic shedding periods show a high rate of transmission because people are having sex during these times, unaware that they are shedding. Most people avoid sex during an ob so its not transmitted much this way. Its more about how the data is collected that when you are most contagious. You are more contageous but less likely to have sex (therfore less likely to transmit) during an ob.
