Difference between Valtrex and its generic?

Has anyone been on brand name Valtrex and the generic valacyclovir? Have you seen that the brand name works better then the generic? (I know generics are supposed to be the same but who knows). I feel like the generic isn’t working for me and want to ask my doctor to send in a prescription for name brand only and pray my insurance will cover it.

Hey there! Valtrex is the brand name for valacyclovir, so those 2 things are actually the same thing. The main difference between Valacyclovir and Acyclovir is bioavailability. So the medication works the same for treating outbreaks and viral shedding, but you only need to take Valtrex once per day instead of taking Acyclovir twice daily (morning and eve).
