Allergic reaction to herpes medication

Recommended Posts

So I was put on Acyclovir to help with the herpes , and the next day I broke out in a very bad case of hives , I had to go to urgent care because I wondered if I was allergic to the medicine they put me on ..turns out I am allergic to it , so I had to stop taking Acyclovir , I asked the doctor if they could put me on any other medicine to help manage the herpes and she went and checked and came back and said that I am most likely allergic to the other medications , so I don't know what to do now , have herpes and be uncomfortable or take medicine and still be uncomfortable , is there anything els I can do ? Maybe any creams or any other like all natural stuff that can help manage the herpes ? I feel lost , not knowing what to do , I have no idea what's left to do now , just sit away waiting for it to go away ? :(

Hey Jayy!

You may or may not be allergic to all of them. There's Valtrex and Famvir, too. If your doctor says it's okay to try those out, too, might as well see if your body has a similar reaction or not. If you do happen to be allergic to all herpes medication options, then there aren't any creams or other treatments that come even close to reducing viral shedding, outbreaks and chances of transmitting herpes. Some swear by taking 1000mg of Lysine per day, but I haven't personally had any luck and I've heard just as many cases of people saying Lysine hasn't helped as those who swear by it.
