Recommended Posts

Hi am new to this site I found out I had herpes on 22/11/13 it's been going on since then every 4 days on my face is this normal. Am on valtrex 500mg been on it for 3 weeks now but it's not getting better. Just want to know if any one else has had outbreaks every four days and if it gets better? I live in the uk sorry if it takes me awhile to reply.

Hi stu ..

Sounds like your immune system is compromised ... I would suggest you get to either an infectious disease specialist or an Endocrinologist ...

The only other option that i can think of is some kind of cycle in your life (food/hormones/etc) . Sun can cause breakouts, as can certain foods (nuts, chocolate, etc) that are high in arginine. That may be a good place to start actually .... check these links out and see if it sounds like it may be something that would be causing your OB's

Hi Stu,

That's something I would definitely bring to a doctor's attention. Have you tried changing things like diet, sleep habits, treatments, etc.? Those are things you really should look at. That said, I had a bad bout with herpes zoster in my mouth a few years ago, and so I know how these "family members" can hang on and drive you crazy.

500 mg a day is a light dose; most doctors in the US prescribe 1000mg for suppressive therapy. You should discuss that with your doctor and also have them run some other blood tests to see what is weakening your immune system.

Thank you both for the replays I will talk to my doctour about my immune system. At the moment am seeing a dermatologist she was the one who put me on valtrex. Am going to see her again in three weeks. I'll update you about my progress.

Sorry forgot to say am starting to eat more healthy and get into a good sleeping pattern. Hope it will help. Also I did go though a lot of stress last year and I was drinking a lot. Maybe that had something to do with it like it.

A dermatologist may or may not be up to date on the latest on H .... because it's such a "minor" thing in their world, they are often less likely to read the most recent info on it ... and given your issues with not being able to get it under control, I might try an Infectious Disease Dr ... who would know more about the immune function and how it may be affecting your H OB's.

A lot of stress and drinking a lot - uh yeah, that could do it... one of the "positive" things about H it is will tell you when your system/life is out of balance ;)

But my doctor gave me flucloxacillin a anti virial it cleared my tongue up I've just got off them but I think it's coming back. Will get some more. They told me it was hsv1 but just why is it coming back a lot? Hope everyone is doing well thank you for the help and support.

I would get blood work to see if something else is out of balance if you are getting them that bad.... if your stress hormones are off the charts, or your thyroid is way off, or something to that effect, it may be that your body just plain can't fight it off. Again, you may want to see an Infectious Disease Specialist or an Endocrinologist who will look at your hormones/etc to see if something is really out of whack.
