How do we know that 80% of H+ people don't know they have H?

Recommended Posts

How do we know that 80% (or something like that) of people with herpes don't know that they have it?

I mean, if they don't know... then how do researchers? How do we?

I feel like I should know this, but alas, I can't figure it out. Hope someone can enlighten me! :)

I'm guessing that when the research was being done on asymptomatic shedding, they would have swabbed people who were asymptomatic as well as confirmed H+ people....

Also, it could be going on how many people get the HSV blood test and come up H+ with having had no symptoms --- which the statisticians could then turn into a number ;)
