Does taking antivirals stop/ delay the body from making it's own antibodies?

Recommended Posts

To my knowledge it does not - my opinion is that if you are able to deal with the OB's then use the meds at the very beginning to halt the initial replication of the virus then let your body do the rest. But if someone just can't function because they are having bad OB's you do what you need to in order to be able to work and do your day today stuff.

If you have a partner you are more likely to pass it to them in the first year when you are having more frequent and stronger OB's so it's better to take it then to protect them. In general, it takes 6 months to a year for your body to gain control over the virus and get to a good amount of antibodies no matter what you do.

@WCSDancer2010 so does this mean that once you have had it for a year, your chance of spreading it decreases? I have had it for about 9 months now and I have been on suppressants the whole time because I can't handle the outbreaks. I am still coming to terms with it and just recently joined this site to try and help.

Most people find that their OB's decrease significantly by the end of the first year, if not well before. If you are still having multiple OB's then you still need to be very careful. If the meds are helping to control them then with luck things will settle down for you soon.

If you continue to have a lot of OB's you may need to look at why you are having so many. Stress, diet, and other things can trigger OB's - so it may be a matter of adjusting your lifestyle or diet to help your body gain control of the virus... this link may help you there:
