Newly Diagnosed

Recommended Posts

Im 24 years old and I just found out last night that I have Herpes.. it hurts the most because I've always been so clean and careful. I've had the same partner for quite some time and we are both completely faithful. He does get cold sores on his lips quite often so I suppose I contracted it from oral sex. Im in so much pain psychically and emotionally. What do I do? I already seen a DR and he put me on 3 different medications. I just feel so lost..

Yeah, it's a drag, but don't beat yourself up and get all upset and play the blame game. Just ask any questions you want here. Read the other posts, you may find some answers to your questions. Look around the site, you'll learn your not alone. It's more common than you think. Chances are someone you know has it too. We just don't talk about it over tea to just anyone. You'll find a lot of useful information here. Dancer will be along to fill you in. I was just talking to her about different ideas to relieve the physical pain. Do you know if it's Hsv1 or 2? I have 1 & supposedly it's less severe. Stick with trusted sites and feel free to cry here! Open up and talk freely with your man too! You're in it together. Since you're so young, I would be very careful who you trust to tell as far as friends go. Once a good friendship goes bad it will be all over FB!

We're here for you! Welcome...

First - hello and welcome.

What do you do? Be patient with yourself and the process. Read as much as you can on here. You've done nothing "wrong" - you just got unlucky. It sounds like you are right about the cold sores ... you just joined the 50% of all new genital cases that are caused by HSV1 from oral sex. Sadly we are not being properly educated about the realities of how people get Herpes and it's feeding into the spread. We have plans here to change that, but it's going to take time and money ...

So think about this. You thought NOTHING about the cold sores that your BF had. You didn't think it made him dirty, unlovable, or "diseased" .... so why should you allow this virus to make YOU feel bad about yourself just because you got it in a different place?

As for the physical pain, it will pass.... the first OB's are usually the worst but HSV1 usually settles down quicker than HSV2 and you should have fewer OB's over time. The following may help you to reduce the pain:

Go Commando as much as possible - getting air to the area can help to dry it out more quickly

If it hurts to pee, either pee in the shower or pour a cup of water over the area as you pee to dilute the urine…..

Reduce stress as much as possible - Herpes feeds off stress!!! It can become a good barometer for you that your body needs attention in some form or other

Look up Trigger Foods/triggers on here in the FAQ and search bar - lots of topics on them ... the main foods are chocolate and nuts but you want to learn about the Lysine/Argenine balance that can help keep Herpes under control

Epsom Salts baths can do wonders for some. Sit in the bath and dump a few handfuls of the salts right between your legs. Relax and let the salts do their thing then get out and dry off, finishing with a blow drier set on low heat to really get the area dry.

These 4 things seem to do the most help for the most people. Aloe Vera CREAM (make sure ALOE is one of the first ingredients and there isn't a bunch of other crap like petroleum and if it has glycerine, it's AFTER the Aloe in the ingredients .. go to a Health food store for your best chance of getting a good product) or Zinc cream may help during the day to keep it from sticking and help relieve the pain ..

Also: Gold Bond Spray powder - right after exercising/hot showers/etc. Supposedly really cools the area ;)

And check these links out - they may help you go get a different perspective about Herpes ;)
