Well, after having sex with my guy friend of over 4 years for the first time about 3 weeks ago, I noticed my "friction burn" never really let up like it usually does. When I checked in the mirror, I was horrified at what I discovered. One big open sore with 3 lesions in it near my vaginal opening. At first I figured maybe while having sex the skin tore so its not gonna heal over night like a simple chafe. But no, this thing lasted over a week, and it fucking hurt like hell. Could barely wipe, putting water on it made it sting like crazy. Witch Hazel didn't help either. After about 3 days, it looked as if it was finally starting to shrink, but to my surprise I found what appeared to be a whitehead on my inner labia. I thought "wtf, hair doesn't grow there, how can I get a pimple?!". As the hours went by, it grew and no longer resembled a whitehead, filled with fluid and started to leak. That night I ran a fever and sweat out 2 shirts, had the worst tingling sensations in and around my vagina that had me tossing and turning all night and back/butt pain out of this world. I also felt deep pressure and pain on my left side near my ovary. I thought it could be ovulation pain, but it was too far to the left to be that (close to my thigh) so I knew it was a swollen lymph node. The next day (This past Monday) I went to the clinic where they confirmed I have Herpes. Which type I am not sure. My cervix was badly infected, lesions all over. I've been taking Acyclovir 3x's a day, I already take probiotics and multivitamins, so I was one step ahead of the game. I know this medication doesn't get rid of the outbreak immediately, and today I am still having difficulty wiping, new sores appeared, and there's a yellow-tinged with blood discharge I just noticed this morning. Is that normal? I had my period two weeks ago, and I don't usually spot between periods. I'm just a complete wreck. I told my friend and he has a Dr. appointment today. Crazy thing he has NO symptoms. How does that work? He mentioned he may have had cold sores in the past but he can't fully remember. He went down on me the first night and his facial hair irritated my vagina. The next week when we had sex he came inside me and ever since, I haven't been the same...

Hello and Welcome!

So they didn't give you your results of which type at the clinic? How did they do the diagnosis? If it was visual, get a swab anyway... odds are it's Herpes but best to make sure there's nothing else going on. I would guess from your story and the fact that you have lesions on your cervix that it's HSV2 and you got it when you had sex as most HSV1 comes from oral sex and it would be unlikely that you got it on your cervix that way.

Your guy could well not know ... 80% of people with Herpes have no idea that they have it because most don't get the symptoms you are describing. Sometimes they may have had a sore or two but if it cleared quickly without all the other symptoms they would brush it aside and have no idea.

The discharge is from you having sores on the cervix. Given how long you went before you started on them they may not have as good an effect as we would hope because the virus already has the upper hand right now... so do what you can to support your immune system (reduce stress... and that's a BIGGIE with Herpes... eat right, get plenty of rest, and read all you can on here about trigger foods and the like).

You will be fine. I'm a 35 yr veteran of H and it's basically a non issue for me that occasionally pops up but I don't get anything more than a nuisance OB and I beat it into submission with the anti-virals and some of the topical applications that you will see in the links below. If you can attack it from the outside as well as the inside then you will find that you can often clear it up a LOT faster AND you start to feel like you have some semblance of control of the situation. So check out the links ... and one additional thing ... seeing as your sores are on the cervix, maybe get one of the kits for home-made vaginal cleansing and make a solution with either the epsom salts or the Alum (you will see info about it in the links) and do a douche a few times a day up there ... the best way to deal with this is to dry it out, but you cant dry the cervix ... but either of these will help to "dry" the sores up a bit.

Thank you so much for your reply. Unfortunately I couldn't get the results of my test because I had to pay for it, and at the time I didnt have the cash. Also I'm so scared to go back for another pap because the pain was unbearable. I don't ever want to experience it again unless I am sedated first. :( They said my symptoms were very characteristic with Herpes so they treated me with antivirals right away to get the ball rolling. I've had about 4 paps in total in the last 6 months due to an ovarian cyst my GYN was looking out for, but with the help of birth control that cyst is gone now. Everytime I've had an exam until now, I've always had a clean bill of health.

Well odds are they didn't test for Herpes in the past - and it *can* stay dormant for years, but I'd bet you just got it from what you wrote. If you can get the results, it's useful info for future reference..... if you know which one you have and you happen to date someone who also has Herpes, there *would* be a difference in approach to sex (if you both have

H2, you don't have to worry about any special protective measures .. if he has H1 and you have H2, you need to take normal herpes prevention precautions) AND you also know more about your potential risk factors. Some Dr's don't understand this and will tell you it doesn't matter, but if you are dating, it helps to know :)

Okay, I made an appt with my GYN to do the blood work and see what my type is. My friend just got his blood test done also so its just a waiting game now...is it possible to have herpes but have a negative test? Again thank you for all of this information, I really had a huge misconception about this virus before I found out I had it..

Thanks Gemini it helps to know I'm not alone in this. I felt like I've been in a bad dream all week and I can't wake up from it. I'm just blessed I got it from someone who cares about me, instead of some jerk who would try to pin the blame on me and leave. He feels awful for giving it to me, but we are helping eachother get through it. This website also helps us out A LOT. Thank you ladies.
