Herpetic whitlow on index finger has this happened to anyone??

So the other day I had terrible pain from my armpit to the tip of my index finger and I noticed small fluid filled vesicles forming that are really painful is this herpetic whitlow? Could it have happend if I had a cut and touched downtown and contracted it from myself. What can I do so it won't spread?

My little niece gets that. Her mom covers her up really good with bandaids, which she changes frequently, until the spots are gone.

It's not uncommon especially when you are in the first 6 months or so of contracting the virus because you don't have the antibodies to the virus built up yet. People who have a lot of hang nails, finger cracks, psoriasis, or who chew their nails short, are most likely to get it because they often have some kind of sore on the area.

 

As @ShaeShae said, keep it covered with bandaids and make sure to not touch your eyes with an OB and it will just be an occasional nuisance. You can wear finger cots over it as well, especially during sex to make sure you don't spread it to another ....

So how long does it take for it to go away. The area were I have it on my finger is purple and painful

Same as all the other types/areas of Herpes - it depends on a lot of factors...

 

It will likely go away faster if you take anti-virals or try some of the things we use for genital/oral herpes ... you can soak it in a cup of warm water and epsom salts (ie, epsom salt bath) ... and I'd try spraying it with Bactine (same thing as oragel single dose and a LOT cheaper)...let it sit then pat dry and blow dry to get it really dry. Any of the things below will he useful to try.
