cold sore

I just got exposed to cold sore virus from my gf i kissed her and apparently she had a sore and didn't tell me and I didn't know what it was cause it was soo small and it was dark anyways I got exposed. I was wondering can that give you really bad sore throat ?. I went to doctors they told me tonsilitis . and it just has not gone away for a month is that because of herpes? . I never heard herpes causing sore throat for month I cant find anything about that

Hello and Welcome!

Well, it's *possible* you got it and your sore throat is the lymph glands working. And it could be tonsilitis. Did you mention to the Dr that you may have been exposed to someone with a cold sore when you went in?

Now here's the thing ... even without a sore, someone could expose you the the HSV1 virus that causes cold sores. Odds are you have kissed people in the past who carry the virus who could be shedding asymtomatically. AND ... the odds are good that you actually already have the HSV1 virus orally - 80% of the population has it and 80% don't know they have it ... and unfortunately we are not tested for HSV unless we specifically ask for the test when we get our STD tests.

So whatever the outcome, oral HSV isn't a big deal ... ;)

You may want to get a swab done of the throat just to be sure ... it could also be Strep which is MUCH more dangerous if left untreated.
