  1. Hello everyone, If you already have hsv1 only, can you also get genitaly? Did a Google search and didn't get a lot of help - people on this site know more than most doctors about hsv1/2 - so went the easy way. :-) Thanks as always - Ra
  2. Hi, I thought I had seen something bout private std testing in the UK in my many hours of hsv2 reading. Take a look at https://www.better2know.co.uk Does not give a cost - would hope it is no more than in the states - bout $150 or bout 75 pounds for hsv1/2 testing. Good luck and take care - RA
  3. Hi, Think maybe the entire aim is for entire UK to HSV2 become positive over time? If it becomes as common as cold sores (80-90%) then no more stigma. Can't see any other reason why they refuse to test. Maybe the cost? If that is the case, then with Obamacare - we will see same in the USA. :-( Thanks and take care - Ra
  4. Hi Havefaith427, I really don't believe the NAVY does HSV2 as a standard. He will need to request and try to convince the navy doctor he really needs it without having symptoms. Be glad when the CDC gets their crap together with testing. Good news if there is any - should not affect his career every if he does have hsv2. Take care and good luck on your journey. Ra
  5. OK - freaking out a bit. Been working to get a western blot scheduled for next week - difficult to get here (other testing wasn't very definitive). But anyway - yesterday got what looked like a Red pimple near the base of my manhood. Even popped like a pimple - had normal white pus. Doesn't really hurt much more than I would expect a normal pimple would. Was no tingling or anything before it popped up. Now today I have another one very close to the one from yesterday. Any chance this could be a primary outbreak after four months? These don't look anything like the images from Google. - Thanks - Ra
  6. Hi lovesjuicy, Main problem with this cure is H isn't passed via blood like HIV. So treating your blood isnt going to help much. Would be wonderful if there was an easy fix for H, but there isn't. :-( Take care and good luck Ra
  7. Thanks for update. Sounds like your new doctor is better, but still very clueless on hsv2 testing. :-( Just in your case - still would want to know if I had shingles or hsv2? But the acyclovir should work to help suppress either. Take care and good luck on your journey. Ra
  8. Hi Katy, Learning about Hidradenitis makes hsv not seem so bad - need to remind myself there are a lot of diseases that are and will kill you. :-( Really not very surprising that so many doctors are unfamiliar with your conditionand its proper treatment. From my own experience and being on this board it's truly shocking how many US doctors are totally clueless on HSV and it's a very common disease. Agree with Dancer - For anyone that is hoping Obamacare is going to solve our issues in the medical system the United States. - You better guess again. Dealt with the NHS in Great Britain - yes you can get into a doctor - but you could take months to get a procedure/testing you need - if they allow it at all. Katy - take care and you have my best wishes. Hope you enjoy a beautiful spring in your wonderful county. :-) Ra
  9. All, I don't know about anyone else. But am extremely upset with all the clueless and seemingly uncaring Doctors people are dealing with for hsv2. Knowing if you have shingles or hsv2 is a big deal - there is a vaccine for shingles that could be very helpful even if you can't handle the standard medication. Agree with dancer - get to someone that has clue and get a proper diagnosis. Take care - Ra
  10. Hi, I would hope your dermatologist could tell the difference between shingles and herpes. But heck they are in the same family so who knows. And yes you can get reoccurring shingles - mother still get them after having the shingles vaccine - maybe just not as bad. Do as Dancer suggests and get back to the doctor have this confirmed. Take care - Ra
  11. Hi Dancer, Totally agree with you that the military herpes rates mirror the rest of society. Just saying with the extreme draw down of forces they are going to up the enlistment standards. During my 20 years I saw highly trained personal kicked out for more minor things than hsv2. The military does not always use common sense on their policies. Ra
  12. Hi Hu142973, Dancer is truely amazing on what she can locate online. Lol - didn't know till reading her link that having no balls as disqualifying for the military Service. Makes sense I guess. :-) Anyway several items you should be aware of. 1. Dancers link is great - but looks to be over a year old. A lot can change in even that short time. 2. With military getting ready to go to levels not seen since the 1930s - they are going to start becoming picky very fast. Things that were never an issue for joining are going to start being major issues. 3. Once you were diagnosed you are required then to tell them or face a felony of a false enlistment. http://usmilitary.about.com/cs/joiningup/a/falsestatements_2.htm The last person that had this issue - was suggested to talk to different recruiter in different area and see what they say about your issue. just don't lie - it isn't worth it. I really think the worst you should have to deal with is getting a waiver and all the bs of dealing with. As far as being protected by hippa laws - from what I have saw in my 20 years of active duty - they mean very little - what you tell your doctor does not stay with your doctor - it can go directly to your chain of command and will effect your career. Very best wishes - Ra
  13. Hi guy, Just put in my two cents. Be aware that hsv1 testing is more iffy than hsv2 testing. I tested highly positive to hsv1 at 6 weeks and then negative at 12 weeks. (Were different IGG tests). Even asked a online Doctor about and said "the fact that in general HSV-1 blood tests are generally less reliable and more difficult to interpret than tests for HSV-2. " If you really need and want to know - wait till at least 14 weeks and get a hsv Western Blot test - if you can afford or find in your location. From my reading it is close to 99% accurate. The truth is the older you get the more likely a person will get hsv1 - at my age - almost 90%. Good luck on your journey. Ra
  14. Hi Idkwhat2do, Using the normal crappy hvs testing has got me to where I am now. One test says I am positive another test says I am not. Which ones are correct - just go with the ones saying I am clean and infect anyone I am with - don't think so. The only testing that is close to 100% is the hsv western blot and only done at the university of Washington. Not easy to get in other locations - can't just get online and sign up for it. Thank - Ra
  15. Hi it05, I truly feel your frustration. I am almost no better off now than I was before I started testing - I still just don't know for sure. Until tests like the western blot become easily available to everyone - a lot of labs are going to continue to make a lot of money on tests that are not reliable. So here I am waiting another two weeks to try to get a Western blot done. Per one on the doctors I have talked to - I am the poster boy of why the CDC does not suggest being tested unless you have "slap in the face" hsv2. Could tell the doc wasn't happy with my decision to hsv test. Heck - up to him - he would have said don't worry about it. (Seems the common suggestions of many uninformed docs :-( ). I for one will allow myself to infect anyone else - especially someone I care about. You are in good hands with dancer and the other people on this site - they are wonderful and extremely caring. Take care - Ra
  16. Thanks dancer, truly understand the limitations of the igm test, but believed it could have been useful in my situation. Guess my best option will be to wait another three weeks and try to get a Western blot done - just isn't easy in this area. This whole thing concerns me as much for other people as myself - been seeing websites saying negative at 12 weeks and your are good to go. I hate to say it, but starting to understand the CDC position on hsv testing. :-( thank again - Ra
  17. I have continued my HSV saga. But I am now more confused now than I was before. I am hoping someone can enlighten me a little bit. What got me here was unprotected sex with a woman who got tested and found she had very high reading for both hsv1/2. But no symptoms. Tested negative IGG hsv1/2 via labcorp 1 week after last involvement. Tested negative IGM hsv via labcorp 2 weeks after last involvement. Tested positive IGG hsv1 4.43 and hsv2 equivocal at 1.07 via DCO at 6 weeks. Tested negative IGG hsv2 via labcorp at 10 weeks. Tested negative IGG hsv1/2 via labcorp at 12 weeks. None of my symptoms really suggest classic hsv1 or hsv2. What I believed is a cold sore has been ongoing for seven weeks now - never heard of a cold sore lasting this long and it has nevered hurt. So how do I go from a high hsv1 positive to a negative 6 weeks later????? Is labcorp testing just not reliable? Thanks - Ra
  18. Hi Justcurios, I totally agree with everyone - hsv1 you can deal with - heck by age 60 - 90% of population will have it. My intital ob was quite obvious + 102 fever a small pimple below my lower lip. You might try following - started using for ob, but liked it so much not going back to my camex - does a better job of keeping lips from chapping. It is only like 6 bucks from Walmart - a lot better than the 15 for abreva - save till you are sure you are having an ob. Quantum Lip Clear Lysine + Cold Sore Treatment Ointment Take care - Ra
  19. Victoria, Yes, getting your teeth pulled isn't much fun. :-( Had two of my back molars pulled couple of months ago - was scheduled for a Monday to have single bad one pulled, but Friday night I bite into something and cracked the one on the other side - rains it pours. Just do what your doc says - last thing you want or need is a dry socket. Please take care - Ra
  20. Hi Justsmile, Yes - just using over the counter stuff and taking l-lysine - started working it hard when I wasn't even sure it was a cold sore. Never got very large at all - just the size of small pimple and never hurt either. Just refuses to go completely away. Hoping since it is my first and I have not let it get much of a foothold, future cold sores will be minor also - I can always hope. :-) Again good luck - Ra
  21. Hi Justsmile, I am sure everyone else can and will answer your questions, but simple answer about acyclovir is yes. Take a look at. http://www.rxlist.com/zovirax-drug/indications-dosage.htm Take care and good luck - been fighting my first hsv1 outbreak for 4 weeks. :-( Ra
  22. Hi Felareed, If you like some interesting reading try Dr Bill Halford blog. Seems like just some poor choices in the medical system has kept a vaccine from being developed. There is also some suggestions that the shingles vaccine might be helpful in controlling extreme cases of both Hsv1/2. http://herpesvaccine.scienceblog.com/author/herpesvaccine/ Take care - Ra
  23. Hi, If this info is already available here - sorry for reposting. Anyway - found this wonderful link with what seemed to be current details for requesting the Western Blot test. Ra http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Herpes/False-Positive-HSV-2-Igg-test-and-Western-Blot/show/2020094?page=1
