  1. The way my doc explained it, HSV1 can be transmitted orally or genitally and can infect either place. HSV2 is transmitted through genital contact only and cannot be passed from genitals to oral.
  2. Yeah it can take upwards of six months for your body to start producing antibodies for a positive blood test. That's why the swab is so important, so people aren't misdiagnosed and it is nice to be able to estimate when the infection took place. I was stealthed and had my first outbreak a week later. When I went to the doctor she said i was either asymptomatic and had it for awhile, in which case the bloods would be positive, or it was a recent infection, which would be a positive swab and negative test. I kind of already knew in my gut what it was though.
  3. The guy that gave it to me "stealthed" me and then tried to tell me I gave it to him. I tried pressing charges but he was undiagnosed. I could have pressed assault charges for stealthing me but decided it wasn't worth it. I just blocked him and did as much research as possible to learn about H.
  4. A negative blood test and a positive swab is indicative of a recent infection. The blood test is negative because you haven't built up antibodies to the virus yet. The same thing happened to me and I definitely have HSV2.
  5. My doctor was also very nonchalant about it. But that actually helped me cope with it easier. She said "sometimes good people just happen to have herpes." I didn't do anything wrong, I'm not a statistic, it's something I can live with and deal with comfortably.
  6. I'm always too afraid to put it in writing but maybe that's better than verbally since then you can prove disclosure.
  7. I did the tea tree oil mixed with coconut oil today at the onset of an outbreak and it felt awesome. Before that while I was in the shower I did an apple cider vinegar rinse. I've read that garlic and makuna honey have antiviral properties but I haven't tried them. I got some Abreva, camphor cream, and another cold sore treatment to try as well. I have rePHresh suppositories but I don't think they work for me. Next on my list is boric acid suppositories and a pH balancing serum or cream. What other soothing home remedies is everyone using? Also, I THINK I've had two-three outbreaks but when symptoms onset I can't tell if it's a yeast infection, BV, or an outbreak. Any tips for telling the difference? I usually end up spending 2-3 days using Monistat and antibiotics only for them not to work and it end up being an outbreak.
  8. I haven't seen the cold sore bandages... what brand are they and where did you get them? I think I'm having an outbreak so I stopped and got Abreva, camphor, cortisone, apple cider vinegar, coconut oil, and tea tree oil. So far the tea tree and coconut oil are proving to be very soothing. I used an apple cider vinegar rinse in the shower and it burned but did bring relief from the itching and burning.
  9. So I have HSV2 and I'm on 500mg of valacyclovir daily for suppression. What are the chances of another outbreak and what do I do if I have one while on meds?
  10. How do you handle oral sex since you've been diagnosed? Do you have to sacrifice this once you find out you have it?
  11. Lysine is very effective for feline herpes virus in cats; I treated my kitten with it and it made a huge difference. I personally didn't notice anything during my first outbreak when I started taking Lysine but I continue to take it and echinacea daily.
  12. Several months ago I rejected someone bc he had herpes and disclosed to me. Honestly, I feel like my diagnosis is cosmic comeuppance for being a shitty person.
  13. I just disclosed to two partners and at least I didn't get my head bitten off. One was very kind and said it didn't make a difference and the other is in shock but hasn't written me off yet. I'm trying to educate him but I think he needs time.
