Confused: Genital HSV-1 & oral HSV-1?

Recommended Posts

Can you get genital HSV-1 even if you have had cold sores since childhood?
I understand you will be immune since your body already developed the anti-bodies for it. I get a cold sore every now and then since I was a kid.
I think I was misdiagnosed with GHSV-1 about 13 years ago after I had my first and only OB that I know of all these years.

I got a IGG positive test for GHSV-2 a couple months ago.

Maybe I've had HSV-2 since the beggining ?

You’re right that it is rare to auto-inoculate oral HSV-1 to genital, especially after the body has developed antibodies. To be certain of which type you have, look into getting the western blot, which is the gold standard in herpes type testing. Here’s more on herpes tests
