- Can I pass it through receiving oral sex? (My answer: Yes)

- Can it be passed if someone drinks after me? (My answer: No)

HI this CAN be a live,

no you cant pass HSV2 by oral sex if you only have it genital. There is a 1-2% chance that you can give it to your partner if they give you oral sex but the chance is really low.

No it cant be passed by a drink ,when you have HSV I guess there is a bigger chance at least you drink from the same glass couple of seconds later on.

Wine especially red wine makes your body warm , it chance the balance from basic to sour which means its the perfect area for the hsv and other viruses but it don't mean you cant drink at all. Anyway Alcohol is a big trigger for sure, when I am drinking a lot I usually get much more symptom's (itchy feeling) the next day but it don't mean you have to get an OB. Yes you can get Herpes even if you take condoms but Antivirals + protection will minimum the risk of transmissions to a very low level Around 1-2 percent.big hug

Hey TCBL! :)

I'm glad you're asking all the nitty gritty questions so you can get a good, knowledgeable understanding of herpes so you can let go of a lot of the stigma by replacing it with truth.

- I have HSV2 can I pass it to someone through oral sex (me as the giver)? (My answer: No)

Only if you have oral herpes. 50% of new genital herpes cases is from people giving oral sex when they have oral HSV-1. But it sounds like you have genital HSV-2, right? Herpes is site-specific, so it wouldn't magically jump from your genitals to your mouth without first touching your genital herpes outbreak and then touching your mouth (and even then, it's hard to pass HSV-2 from the genitals to the mouth since HSV-2 prefers to hang out on the genitals).

- Can I pass it through receiving oral sex? (My answer: Yes)

Not likely. 1% of oral herpes is HSV-2. 99% is HSV-1. In fact, in the video where Dr. Leone came to our support group to answer questions, he said there is NO reason why people with genital herpes should avoid receiving oral sex. :)

- Can it be passed if someone drinks after me? (My answer: No)

No. Only skin-to-skin contact.

- Is wine a trigger? (My answer: I sure hope not...I need it NOW more than ever!!)

It can be, but it varies from person to person. Anything that lowers your immune system (which alcohol does) technically lowers the defenses that your body has built against herpes and can leave it more open to an outbreak. But here's my answer: If wine makes you happy and you don't drink it to excess, then enjoy drinking your wine. Be healthy all around and wine doesn't affect you negatively as far as I'm concerned. This advice also goes for chocolate, coffee, and anything else that may have arginine in it (read below for the whole arginine/lysine explanation) ... I believe that if you keep your body overall super healthy, then whatever food/drink makes you happy, then consume it. That's what life is about. Enjoying it. :)

- Can someone get herpes even if they use a condom? (My answer: Yes)

Yes. Condoms lessen the chance of transmitting herpes by 50%. It also depends on where the outbreak happens to show up. Condoms don't always cover the spot of outbreaks, and the skin-to-skin contact allows the possibility of passing herpes. But if you use condoms and are on suppressive therapy, it lessens the chances of female > male transmission down to 1%. Read this handout for all the information on that:
