Can menopause affect herpes outbreaks?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone out there have any information on how menopause can effect hsv2. I have been having more issues with outbreaks and also have vaginal atrophy due to menopause. Is it common for woman to have more outbreaks after menopause. I have been in full on menopause for the last three years, in fact the only lingering symptom I have is this vaginal atrophy which is a thinning of the skin in the vaginal area. Any input would be great

I actually have had less outbreaks since I finished menopause but while I was going through it I had a lot of smaller ones.

Regarding Vaginal Atrophy - are you on any kind of bio-identidcal hormones? They are the ones that are made up especially for you and come in a cream that you put on each day. You will need a total hormonal assay then they create a cream that helps to balance you out. Because it goes through the skin it doesn't get affected by the digestion/liver and it's better all around for your body than the older hormone replacement stuff like Premarin (avoid that like the plague...HORRID stuff IMO!). They may also put you on vaginal suppositories for the thinning to get some of the hormones where you need them most. What is your Dr saying about it?
