How much Acyclovir do i take to prevent transmitting herpes?

I want to take Antivirals to prevent transmitting asymptomatically. I don't have re-occurrences, but I want to protect my lover. How much do I take?

You should talk to your doctor. I think most prescribe between 800-1000mg of Acyclovir.

Yup - depends on which meds you take but you should take the same amount as someone who has OB's

The other doctor prescribed me 800 mg of Aciclovyr for suppressive therapy, and when my actual doctor looked he said that it was WAY TO HIGH.. && that I needed to dose down to 400 mg twice a day. Also he printed out a handout of studies from Harvard University saying that 500-1000 mg of L-Lysine a day also decreases the chance of spreading it. (:

 

But also talk to your doctor, because it differs from person to person.

The 800 was probably meant to be to help the original OB ... 400 is the normal dose for most people...

Good - look up lysine AND Arginine AND herpes together and you will find lots of info on the foods that contain each of them so you know what to avoid if you seem to get frequent breakouts :)

Yes. My doctor told me to take L-Lysine because it is the all natural form and not Lysine. He also gave me packets on Arginine and Herpes just like she said ! It is good to learn about this stuff. (( Even though i still eat lots of chocolatey peanuty goodness ! )

I am stressed as my daughter liked to share the bed with me around the time of my first breakout (on my buttock). This was when i didn't know it was Herpes : ( I just wore a skimpy nighty. There are so many worries : (

Honey - you are waaaaay over-thinking these things!!!! I have 2 grown daughters and they never got it and I never stressed about 1/10th of the things I see people freaking out about on here!

 

Bottom line is, you can't spread the virus that easily. It has to be very direct skin contact with an open blister or a lot of rubbing during an asymptomatic period.... and even then many people never get it. You can't get it from towels, the toilet seat, or through clothes. AND, if your daughter got it from you very likely she would have shown symptoms very quickly as kids don't have the antibodies to fight the virus that well.
