Recently Diagnosed with Herpes

I found out I have HSV2 on March 11th this year. The nurse who told me just swept it under the rug, told me not to worry and let me leave. I m still processing this and have an appointment with my doctor Friday. Any advice on what I should ask? Medicines available or just advice in general? Anything helps right now.

First thing - be gentle with yourself. The perceived stigma is worse than the virus.

I would start with reading the handouts on here

You may want to discuss anti-viral/suppressant meds if you have a partner to protect them ...tho they should get tested to see it they have the virus too (in which case, it doesn't matter, because you can't get "more" of the virus from them.

I would read as much as you can on here between now and then... get familiar with other peoples experiences and that may help you to figure out what you want to learn. I would say one thing tho... if your Dr is a Family Dr/General Practice Dr he/she *may* not be that familiar with the most recent info. So you may want to take the handouts with you and that will tell you a lot about what they know. The info on them are from reliable sources and if they don't seem to know much about things like asymptomatic shedding, you need to find a different Provider (obgyn/planned parenthood/urologist/etc) to work with.

(((HUGS))) Feel free to ask anything or comment on here as much as you need to. We are here for you ;)
