acyclovir and side effects? liver failure?

Hey guys....For those of you who have taken acyclovir for a while now...any serious side effects? I just finished a 10 day course and I am considering taking it for suppression...my boyfriend is H - . I researched and some of the info scared me a bit...liver failure????

I have been taking 400mg/day for over 12 years without any complications to date, regular blood tests would pick up any side effects or liver/kidney issues. For me it just brings a little normality and the benefits out way any negatives, for now. You could also experiment a little also and see what works best for you, hope this helps ;)

Unless there are existing liver function issues, there is a very minimal effect on the liver. The drug has an excellent track record as far as meds go. I also take it daily (500mg) and it has changed my OB's from every three months to once a year or less. I started taking them due to having an H- partner but I have to say....... I would stay on them for the benfits.

I have to agree with kiwiguy and fitgirl. The doctor who first prescribed acyclovir for me said it was one of the safest drugs out there.

I have been taking it since October, and I have had zero side affects. :)
