Initial OB after 11 years with partner?

Recommended Posts

My husband and I have been married 10 years now. I've known about his status since before we had sex. We used a condom until we wanted a baby, but haven't used one since then (our son is almost 10). I was delusional, I guess, to think that perhaps I was somehow immune to H since I had been spared so far.

I've had no signs of any infection until a week and a half ago, when I thought maybe I had a UTI, since the first sign was painful urination. I had my annual OBGYN appt the next week so I just held out, but noticed that things were pretty sore down there, though I did not see any blisters or anything.

At the appt she saw what looked like little cuts, and did a swab, which came back positive for HSV2.

I have been able to go to work, although it hasn't been easy since besides the quite painful urination, the worst part has been that my lower back, buttocks, and the backs of my legs are quite backs of my legs are painful to touch as well. Today seems worse, despite having taken 6 doses of 1g of valtrex so far. Sitting and even lying down on my back hurts, and walking isn't a picnic either.

Does that nerve pain get worse before it gets better? I haven't see a lot of talk about that pain during the first OB. I am hoping it doesn't come back with recurrent OBs, but then I am also hoping I don't get any more OBs!! It never hurts to be positive, right?

The exact same thing happened to me during my primary.. About a week to a week in half after initial symptoms, I developed severe neuropathy, despite already being on valtrex for 5 days at that point. It got so bad, I felt like a burn victim and couldn't sit or lie on my back. Could barely handle clothes touching me, so I went to the ER and requested nerve pain meds called Neurontin. I had to take it four four months. To this day, a yr n half later, it's never been quite the same. Hard surfaces are very uncomfortable for me, but I don't have pain anymore.

My nerve pain didn't come back like that, but I'd say w recurrents, that my butt Bone's and tailbone would have mikd discomfort and sitting on a stool or hard surface was a no go. I also had the same issue w voiding urine. The nerves that control the contracting of the bladder, can be affected by H during the primary. I'd say it took me about two weeks to completly void. Try sitting in a hot bath and see if that helps.

Yeah, that's what I was on too, but I never remember how to spell it, so I just go by the brand name. It can gave some nasty side effects, but for me, it was worth it, because I could go about my day and sit once again. Hang in there and let me know how things go. Are you taking it 3xs a day? It takes time to build up in your system, so it can take a week or two to get the full effects of it.

I'm sorry you ended up getting Herpes ... to be honest many people never, ever get it. But if you were using no meds or condoms the risk was certainly a lot higher with you being a woman.... either way, I promise you WILL get through this.

I suggest you attack it from the outside ... I'm going to put a bunch of links but generally Epsom Salts baths (drop a double handful of the salts between your legs so its concentrated there), followed by thorough drying (even using a hair drier to get it really dry), maybe going commando, and using Bactine (which helps to kill the virus AND numb it thanks to the lidocaine in it) ... or my favorite, Ammonium Alum ... but there's LOTS of suggestions in the links. I find if you attack it from the outside, the inside can do it's job better :)
