  1. I took L-Lysine when I felt prodome symptoms and it completely stopped the symptoms and I didn't get an outbreak. I took the Nature Made brand 1000mg a day for 7 days. It worked for me!
  2. @WCS hi, I have a OBGYN but I also have an internal medicine doctor who's practice specializes in STI's. Both Doctors think its best for me not to be on daily suppresive therapy because I wasn't having outbreaks but since this happened I think I will be getting on it. My boyfriends view on it is that he loves me & doesn't care either way. He says we are in it together but I do feel like now since I had this episode, it's best if I go ahead and take daily meds -at least for a while to see how things go. L-Lysine has really helped me and I'm so happy about that but I know that won't protect him from getting Herpes and I want to protect him as much as I can. I think this definitely happened because I was really stressed. I'm going to try and be as stress free as possible but that's kind of hard to do but I'm going to try! How long should I wait to have sex again? The symptoms are all gone now. Thanks!
  3. Cicily you are so inspiring with a beautiful message! Awesome interview :-)
  4. One more thing... I've read on here & on CDC website that prodome generally lasts from a few hours and up to 2 days. So is it safe to say that if you've had prodome symptoms for more than 2 days but no actual bumps or anything else that you won't actually get a full blown outbreak?
  5. Thanks so much! Yeah I was stressed with work last week so I'm guessing it was or still is an outbreak. Going to rest and pay attention to my body!
  6. Hi all, So after testing positive seven months ago, Two days ago I began having a slight itchiness And a little bit of burning when I used the restroom accompanied with a weird thigh pain. I called my doctor but he did not want to give me any medication because he was unsure that it was outbreak. He suggested that we wait and see. I took 1000mg of L-Lysine this morning and all my symptoms are gone now. No itchiness, no thigh pain and no little burn when I pee. There are no bumps or redness. There's nothing. Could this have been my first outbreak? My boyfriend was tested again 2 weeks ago for all STI's and is negative for everything so I know it's not anything else. Should I be taking more L-Lysine just in case? Any other things I should do? Could this be my outbreak? Is it over? Any suggestions?! Thanks for any advice! :-)
  7. Not sure why this came to my mind but I just realized the Valtrex commercials don't come on tv anymore. I haven't seen one in years. Why were these commercials taken off the air? Is it because the medical community thinks Genital Herpes is not a big deal?
  8. Awesome! I agree, doing our part is telling them first. Happy for you!
  9. @unhappy1 oh believe me I know not to have sex if I feel or see anything irregular. I am very aware of my body, as we all probably are.
  10. Hi all, So it's officially been over 6 months since I requested to have the herpes blood test which resulted in a surprising positive result for HSV2. I still haven't had an outbreak. I still don't know how long I've had it or where I got it from but that doesn't matter to me anymore. The last guy I was with before I tested positive is still coming up negative (he's a great friend) and the man I'm with now is negative too. They seem to think I don't have it but tests rarely lie. So I'm just aware of my body and have since moved on with my life. I did a little experiment (with the blessing of my boyfriend) to see if men would treat me any differently. I met 2 guys, went on some casual dates and then disclosed that I have HSV2 and neither one of them cared. I was surprised by their reactions actually. They both kind of said "if a woman has a great personality, is smart, funny and spontaneous then it doesn't matter." Of course I stopped "dating" them and did not sleep with them but they were both awesome guys and I was just seeing them to see what their reactions would be and It helped me in the end because I became even more comfortable with disclosing. In the beginning my boyfriend thought my little experiment was funny & he told me a real man wouldn't care because he would see how great I am. And he was right. I'm very lucky to have such an understanding & strong man. The only issue I'm having is with oral sex. He loves to do it and my status doesn't stop him. I know the chances are extremely low that he would get it from going down on me so i guess that its more of an issue I just have to deal with and let go of. So for any women reading this, just know there are great guys out there and having H won't limit your choices. Just be the best version of yourself and people will love you no matter what. And try the disclosure experiment. It really helps!
  11. http://www.prweb.com/releases/2013/12/prweb11448104.htm Very interesting article regarding HSV2 rates in civilian vs. military veterans (women) and does anyone know more about the medication they are discussing?
  12. Signed! Does anyone know how many people have to actually sign this in order for it to be possibly be approved?
  13. @herry you're right but I did get the Western Blot and came back in about a week and was + for HSV2 and - for HSV1.
  14. Blood Test can most certainly tell you if you have HSV1 or HSV2 even when you are not having an outbreak. Ask specifically for the Western Blot (it's the best one) hope this helps! :-)
  15. @strawberrygirl Hi. This is just my opinion. Disclosure is extremely important. Being an honest person is extremely important. I tested positive without symptoms & I have never had an OB. But guess what, I still called up the people from my past and informed them and our friendships are even stronger now because of my honesty. The current person in my life does not have HSV2 & he is still by my side. And our bond is even stronger than before. My point is: Be Honest & care about other people because remember even if YOU never have an outbreak that doesn't mean the person you have sex with won't. Everyone's body handles HSV2 differently. Please disclose & give people the right to choose for themselves. If you are a smart, talented, funny & spontaneous woman with tons of wonderful qualities -guess what; they won't care you have Herpes. They will see that it is manageable and they will respect you 100%.
  16. Just imagine testing positive while never really having any symptoms that are concrete. The little things i think might have been symptoms that I recall from years ago could very well be something else. Just imagine asking for the blood test out of curiosity & getting the results back and being shocked when they tell you it's HSV2. And then furthermore being confused that the men you have had sex with in the last few years go and get tested and they are negative. Just imagine not even knowing when or how you got it. To say the least, I was super stressed about it for a while but now I've accepted it and I am trying to not let this diagnosis change who I am and how I feel about myself. This forum has really helped me. It has taught me to slow down and really get to know someone before taking that step. No one is perfect and everyone has something they wish they could change.
  17. Hi Adrial! Can you maybe ask a question related to pregnancy & HSV2? Something like: if a woman has tested positive for HSV2 but has never had a visible outbreak, then what are the chances / percentages she will have an outbreak during pregnancy? (I'm wondering b/c I've read that sometimes outbreaks happen due to hormonal changes) Thanks so much! :-)
  18. My hand is up! Inspire people! :-)
  19. I agree but it seems to work pretty well. Just another option :-)
  20. Just saw this on the Dr. Phil show. The app is called Dr On Demand. It connects you quickly via video with a board certified Doctor that can help with anything from a sore throat, STI's, and prescriptions. Might be worth a try to avoid going to the doctors office. Just wanted to share!
  21. @LexaMarie hi & welcome to this awesome forum. Believe me, all the members here will shower you with helpful information and encouragement whenever you need it. I also had the wonderful problem of acne, lol. I got Accutane and in a few months my skin was amazing and I haven't had any issues since but then I found out I had HSV2. I know how you feel. Trust me. Learn as much as you can about herpes and try to relax. Easier said than done but life is meant to be enjoyed. Just put this into perspective and you will find a new normal for yourself. Soooooo many people have herpes. You probably know a bunch of people with it and don't even realize it. Chin up buttercup! :-)
  22. @stilllearninginpacnw Well, this is exactly what my doctor said "there is no need to disclose at this time, this is simply clinical information and you have tested positive for Herpes 2 Antibodies." -I am assuming that I have HSV2 even though I've never had an actual outbreak. My doctor also would not give me meds because he said there is nothing to treat. I have recalled "symptoms" AFTER reading all about prodome. So I don't know if I made up these symptoms in my head because I am afraid or if I actually had them. Either way, I am going forward thinking I have it and will be careful & disclose it to potentional partners. Also the last 2 people I have been with went and got tested and they are both negative. It's so confusing! What do you think?
  23. @stilllearninginpacnw I was diagnosed because I willingly asked for the blood test. I didn't have any symptoms so you can imagine my shock and surprise about testing positive. So believe me you CAN test positive even w/o symptoms. I look forward to hearing more about your experiences with living with H.
