Oil cure for herpes?

I have a friend who is selling oils, the new "IN" thing. She has been doing a bit of research and is convinced certain oils "cure" hsv. Had anyone heard of thus or experienced it? I'm not a huge fan of taking meds in general and typically when I have an outbreak I just wait it out in pain. But who wouldn't do this if it were true?!

Ah, the recurring "cure" discussion. ;) Know the difference between a "cure" and a "treatment" for herpes. The herpes virus will always be in your body and be transmissible even when actual sores aren't present (via asymptomatic viral shedding), but there are things you can do to help minimize herpes outbreaks and treat the outbreaks when they come up. A cure isn't anywhere close, but a vaccine that will minimize viral shedding might be coming up, which is further than 5 years out.

 

The most important thing is to be healthy. Your immune system itself is the best way to minimize herpes outbreaks. Eat healthy. Think healthy. Exercise. Oils such as what your friend is offering might help actual herpes outbreaks, but there's nothing you can apply to your skin that will rid the herpes virus from your body.

I knew that would be a response. I questioned her about the same thing, but I dont believe she understands. I'm aware of the differences. She is suggesting ingestion of the oils or absorption going into the blood stream. It is challenging for me to explain herpes to people when it gets into the deeper explanation, such as it being viral. I'll have to forward your response. And possibly be her guinea pig, ha.

Yeah, for sure! If you determine that it's healthy and safe to ingest those oils, then have at it! Couldn't hurt. And if you find that it actually cures herpes, let us know! We'll make world news (and history)! ;)

Yeah - people think when the OB's stop, they have been "cured". Odds are they just finally got the antibodies to a high enough point that they got it under control. ... not to say the "oils" or whatever didn't help the body to get balanced, but believe me, if it was that simple, all the drug companies would be extracting whatever part of the oil was the "cure" and they'd be selling it as soon as it made it through all the trials ;)
