The ignorance surrounding having hsv

Recommended Posts

The ignorance of people when it comes to hsv is mind-blowing. They think that we are nasty, filthy, and unclean just because we have this virus. They don't know that this virus is a result of direct skin to skin contact not from bacteria or being unclean. I've always took pride of my personal hygiene habits so I don't consider myself filthy. I really hate the stigma of this disease!

Hey DarkKnightX!

Welcome to our community! And I totally agree. And that's what this whole community is here to support: Us living stigma-free. The antidote to shame and stigma is us living our lives fully and not falling into believing the bullshit that's floating out there about what it means to live with herpes ... I'm glad you're here. You're in good company. ;)

I hear ya, some ignorant lady posted on fb last night in the comments, that she's a germa-phobe and if someone even has a cold sore, she won't shake their hand. I tried educating her someand then she said, well she wouldn't know, as she's not lived that type of life style to get an STD. This made me want to throat punch her for a split second, but what are you going to do? People will always want to set themselves to appear above others unfortunately and that will never go away. The longer you have this, the less you'll care what others say about it.
