Diet and herbs

Recommended Posts

I am editing a handout for my school's clinic related to herpes diet. Right now it focuses mainly on lysine/arginine ratios. I want to add more detail to that but also add any any other foods or herbs that may be triggers or can be particularly supportive. Let me know what works and doesn't for you? And if you can provide good sources for dietary recommendations that would be even better. It seems like the research is fairly limited. There's some stuff with lysine and lemon balm. What else have you found? I'm also curious if any supplements have been particularly helpful (more curious for myself on this one).

Well coffee and liquor are triggers for me. If I drink several liquor drinks, I will wake w a bump. Everyone is different, not everyone is triggered by foods. Some say chocolate and nuts can be trigger's for them. I think a good daily probiotic is important as well, since 70% of our immune system is in our gut.

I know this is more than you are looking for (ie, more than just diet) but it has a lot of things others have used like Olive Leaf Extract and the like. You should get plenty in these links... AND ... the main thing is to avoid things that STRESS you. Stress and Hormones seem to be the top 2 triggers ... and my experience is that the one time that food triggered me was when I was perimenopausal and the combination of nuts and chocolate set me off for a couple years ... now I can eat anything I want and I haven't found any links to anything in my diet/lifestyle beyond stress.

I suggest you keep a journal of what you are eating, activities, stressors, etc ... see if you can see a pattern for what makes it worse. I often say that Herpes is like a "first responder" to the health of your body ... although in the first few months, it's often just that your body needs time to figure out how to get it under control.
