Any Vitamins and immune system tips?

Recommended Posts

So I've had HSV1 since December, and I've had the occasional bump since then. But now I'm experiencing a full breakout with several small bumps. It's day 6 and they aren't showing signs of improvement. I'm going to get a prescription tomorrow morning, but I'm curious about suppliments. I've read on several postings that people have had positive results with multivitamins, lysine pills and vitamin B? Does anyone have any recommendations. I've been extremely stressed this week with work and my personal life and it's taking a toll on me. Epson salt baths have helped. But any suppliments ideas would be very much appreciated!

Good question, I'm gonna read along.

I take multivitamins pretty much daily all through the year. Not on any other herpes medication. I have a few outbreaks a year, no real severe ones, but I have no idea if the multivitamins are of any real influence. I do take them to support my immune system in general.

I suggest you keep a journal of what you are eating, activities, stressors, etc ... see if you can see a pattern for what makes it worse. I often say that Herpes is like a "first responder" to the health of your body ... although in the first few months, it's often just that your body needs time to figure out how to get it under control.

Second - attack it from the outside ... I'm going to put a bunch of links but generally Epsom Salts baths (drop a double handful of the salts between your legs so its concentrated there), followed by thorough drying (even using a hair drier to get it really dry), maybe going commando, and using Bactine (which helps to kill the virus AND numb it thanks to the lidocaine in it) ... or my favorite, Ammonium Alum ... but there's LOTS of suggestions in the links. I find if you attack it from the outside, the inside can do it's job better :)

I'm very new to this as I have just been diagnosed, but after all of my research, keeping your immune system up and dealing with stress seems to be key. It is a bit of an investment, but I adore the brand pure synergy. You can't get better supplements. Non gmo, cold pressed, sustainably harvested, etc. I take their multi vitamins, b vitamins, and mix their powder into a glass of water. It tastes like a swamp, but it's filled with algaes, herbs, and all kinds of wonderful immune boosters that are hard to get into your diet. I deal with anxiety and depression, so avoiding stress is a challenge for me. But valerian root works wonders at calming me down. I hear st Johns wort is also very effective. I wrote a list of all the foods to avoid and the ones to consume during an outbreak or around times of stress when outbreaks are likely to occur. Basically avoiding argenine is the big key, and eating foods higher in lysine. A friend of mine tells me she hasn't had an outbreak in three years, and whenever she feels the start of one coming on, she takes 3000 MG of lysine until it goes away. It's a little risky because too much lysine can offset your body which can also cause an ob. But I think during times of an outbreak it makes sense.
