Passing genital herpes through oral??

So I’ve read a few different things about this and I’m still just confused. Can you pass genital herpes through oral? I’m not sure if I have 1 or 2 yet (just recently got diagnosed in june) but I’m curious if it’s possible to give it to someone if they were to perform oral on me.

yes and yes. Both can be passed, however, if you have GH 2 is much harder to pass it to the mouth through oral sex.

Heya @Kayx33! Only 1-2% of oral herpes cases are HSV-2, so like @JulyP said it’s harder to pass, but it does happen. (In fact, you’ll find posts on this forum about throat herpes that was passed from oral.) so be careful and don’t do the do while there’s any sort of outbreak or the possibilities of an outbreak coming on (aka prodrome).

Hi, I have HSV1 and had the same question. Trying to figure out if a partner can contract oral herpes from performing oral on me. Sorry if this was answered above because the answers still had me confused 😕

Hey @brown-eyes! Yes, think of it like you get cold sores below the belt instead of on the mouth. So someone going down on you would have the same risk of getting oral HSV-1 as kissing someone who gets cold sores from oral HSV-1 (which is 80-90% of people). Does that help?
