Has anyone seen a infectious disease specialist for herpes?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone seen a infectious disease specialist for herpes? My PCP wants me to follow up with an infectious disease doctor due to my outbreak being ongoing for two months. I’m just not sure what they would do for me or suggest, or what questions to ask?

thanks!

Yes I went to see one 2 weeks after I saw my primary.... he did a pcr blood test which came back negative he said no trace of the virus in my blood. I go see him again on the 19.... I’m also on daily suppressants and he wants to take me off soon

How were you dx originally? PcR? Or blood test by your primary doctor.

Your PcR was positive and then negative? I thought that test was supposed to be super accurate??

Igg was positive, igm negative, swab was positive but a month later I went for PCR and it’s coming up negative. I’m repeating the test on nov 19

If you didn’t have an active outbreak then your swab would be negative. There has to be blister fluid to test. You’re repeating the PCR test?

No. I haven’t had an OB  since September 20. I guess just to make sure the virus is dormant. At this point I honestly don’t know what to think of my test was negative. I’ll also be doing western blot at the end of the month

The PCR test is going to come back negative if you aren’t having an active outbreak.. meaning you don’t have any lesions or blisters. I don’t know why they would redo it if you don’t have any sores present. My thought is that it would make more sense to redo the IGG test.
