Okay you're definitely negative for Herpes then, right?? Any idea of what it actually is then? Anything help? Trying to figure out what I have too, very similar.  I will say a very high quality probiotic has helped me

I'm not sure because my ex girlfriend (who did not have HSV before dating me) caught HSV from me.

The skin between my lip and nose keeps reacting strange after I shave that area. I recently had very red and sore skin next to my mouth, and a sore on at the entrance to my butt that I think was brought on by drinking coffee. I didn't have a chance to get anything swabbed.

Okay I'm not a doctor but I am someone who's grown up with a LOT of allergy/inflammation and skin related issues and crappy doctors.

All your symptoms are valid and real, you aren't creating them, that said if repeated blood tests come back negative the chances of you having herpes simplex is low. You can get the WB test and be absolutely sure.

BUT this doesn't mean you don't have herpes altogether, Shingles and Chicken pox are also a strain of herpes virus, and in those who are older/have lower immunity, herpes zoster is also a thing, with similar symptoms. And the herpes test you get is for HSV aka herpes simplex.

A lot of doctors suck because people's conditions don't fall into neat little boxes they learn in school. My doctor often sees my sore and peeling and inflamed lips and tell me I'm fine when I'm clearly in pain and just says, "you're too stressed".

The sad thing is, they're not wrong. Here's the thing stress leads to lower immunity which causes flare ups for herpes AND a whole slew of other stuff with THE SAME SYMPTOMS. I know this because I have recurring exfoliative cheilitis and eczema and HSV-1 AND HSV-2 and oral+lip yeast infection, and it sucks because I never know WHICH it is and what medicine to use or if it's all of them. But they basically have the same prodromes and are all caused by stress and anxiety lowering your immunity.

    • Itchy, red bumps in groin.-> Allergic reaction and or dermatitis due to stress reducing immunity
    • Brain fog, confusion,  headaches, hard time focusing and recalling information  (made worse by eating sugar)-> can be caused by depression and anxiety, BUT also if you have candida/yeast infection, especially in your GI tract (since sugar totally triggers candida in the GI tract)
    • Tingling in the nerves of my hands, legs, and feet-> Herpes tingling  travels around nerves where the virus is located in, so either your thighs and pelvic region or neck and face. If it's in the hands and legs it's more likely paresthesia. When I had an incredibly stressful episode, it felt like people were constantly dunking my hands and legs inside buckets of ice water. not nice.
    • Lip constantly chapped and cut-> Cheilitis and fissured lips, a lot of it has no cure, doctors have no answers for it beyond moisturize. Can also be a result of candida infection/oral thrush (at this point maybe you notice how fucking annoying yeast actually is and that good immunity actually should also include healthy gut and overall body flora), which is once again linked to stress, lack of sleep, not drinking enough water, sun exposure, eating of spicy foods, drinking coffee or alcohol
    • Small cuts on penis shaft with occasional peeling skin->Sounds like  Genital Psoriasis, basically a kind of genital eczema. Also, dry skin leads to small cuts and flaking of skin. ALSO will spread to groin area
    • Constant itching in my anus-> Can be hemorrhoids, especially if there are no blisters. If you have a delicate anus and your poop is too 'rough', it could lead to it too, because of micro-healing 'cuts' that itch. I got them a lot growing up and I only tested positive last year, my HSV test two years ago was negative and I've been getting itching in the anus since i was a child.
    • Loss of hearing and a fullness of the ear -> tinnitus can be caused by stress. Can also be inflammation of your inner ear, hence the fullness.
    • Blisters on gums -> COULD be herpes, but also gum disease, canker sores, and a number of other oral hypersensitivity reaction
    • Tingling in lips-> Guess what, Cheilitis and lip eczema AND allergies ALL cause tingling in lips. And if your lips are constantly chapped and inflammed then it's more likely that than a no-blister outbreak of herpes.
    • Discoloration of penis glans -> Once again, please refer to Genital Psoriasis (https://www.healthline.com/health/genital-psoriasis#appearance ) but can also be thrush/yeast infection
    • Constant fatigue -> If all these symptoms are happening to me and I don't know why and I'm stressed, I'd be constantly fatigued too. I can't imagine the emotional stress this all causes + fun fact, fighting off constant infections and inflammations is tiring AND poor diet and candida can also lead to constant fatigue
    • Eye pain and constant dry eyes. -> Guess what else stress causes? Dry eyes. BUT it can also be caused by other diseases such as like Sjogren's syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, and collagen vascular diseases. Or just regular old red-eye infection. Can also be a side-effect of eating anti-histamines, which if you're getting rashes you might be on.
    • Itchy skin on butt checks -> Can just be eczema, skin there is thinner and more fine as well, so when it's try they're more likely to itch or rash.
    • Red, sore skin on corners of lips. -> Inflammation of lips, common when your lips are often chapped, they are more exposed and prone to irritation.

I'm not saying that you definitely DON'T have herpes, but it sounds like it could be a lot of other immunity related inflammation that unfortunately all fall under the category of "stress-induced" by modern day medicine. I'm not saying western medicine is flawed, if I get a bacterial infection I'm bloody getting antibiotics but all this...you might find naturopaths have better answers for you. Or maybe a nutritionist, a lot of this can also be food sensitivities (NOT allergies, food sensitivities present themselves in bizzare ways, from hair fall to itching). Either way, even if they can't fix your problems, they'll help you have a healthier lifestyle and better immunity which should help you with your problems. What a lot of medicine (not all) does really is weaken viruses or strengthen our body to fight them OR to reduce symptoms. Much of actual healing is done by our own body. So keeping a healthy mind and body is important.

Thing about our body and allergic responses is that we know NOTHING. You can live your life allergy-free for 40 years then one day have pollen allergy. The body resets itself every 7 years. And there's a lot of environmental stressors we don't even realize, like noise pollution in cities which we THINK don't affect us but scientists have proven, yes they do even when we don't realize it.

Finally, just a quote. If exercise was a pill, we'd all think it's snake oil. Because exercise actually is PROVEN to reduce risk of cardiovascular disease, better sleep, better immunity, prevent diabetes, helps you lose weight, helps body detox etc. So maybe it sounds like platitudes to say: drink more water, meditate, eat healthy and sleep more. but sometimes, that really IS it. Sounds easy but a lot of us don't do that. We want medicines and creams with immediate effect.

But okay, say I'm wrong, say all the tests are wrong and even if what you DO have is Herpes, well...at the end of the day, it's all these things that keeps your immunity up that suppresses the virus and outbreaks.

You shouldn't have to suffer so much and I can't imagine the stress and frustration this is causing you. Doctors should be better.  it sucks, you're absolutely right. And here's a hug. *hugs* Maybe you won't find a cure, but you WILL find something that works for you to ease all these annoying irritations, from the perfect moisturizer to lip balm to eye drop.

I appreciate the response, but I don't believe all of these things would come on coincidentally after I had sex. Since the last time I posted, I learned I infected a previous partner with HSV. I started seeing a different girl who already had oral HSV and we had unrprotected oral and vaginal sex multiple times. With each time we had sex, the redness of the head of my penis got worse and the skin became extremely sensitive. I then started getting a burning in my urethra and my bladder never feels empty. It's been like this for almost 3 months.

    I don't have a bladder infection, either...

I tested positive twice in one month for HSV1, but then started testing negative again, and my Western Blot was negative. None of my doctors can explain that.

I can assure you, stress is NOT doing any of this to me. Stress never made my body react this way for decades.

I don't know if this info will  make it better or worse for you. My H is something of an enigma. I 100% believe I have had it since I was 16. I was with a guy one time.  Found out he had H after.  I wasn't stressed because I really didn't know all that much about it and this was pre-internet days so no easy access to info, plus I was a teenager self absorbed with my life so didn't give it too much thought other than to get rid of the guy. (In other words I don't feel I was being a hypochondriac).  A week later, insane genital itching and bumps.  Over the next few months itchy welts on my chin/neck/back of legs that would come and go.  Some time over the year 1 itchy red welt on m eyelid. Dr. prescribed an ointment but told me nothing. Years later I was reading the package and it said for ocular herpes.  Started getting cold sores in those early years.  Never went to the dr bc I just was oblivious and was now insanely busy plus in serious relationship. Plus all the common place knowledge on herpes from my day was "you just live with it and don't have sex when you have outbreaks".

Late 20's:  Occassional outbreaks over those years.  Lots of prodromols. I was single again, now lots of info online and figured I needed to find out my HSV type.  Dr. said no point in doing a blood test without an outbreak to swab, herpes was "so common" and a positive blood test wouldn't sayit was genital and not worth the stress people go through bc some many people have it. so I took her word and said ok.

Early 30's; always told partners I have herpes. They never questioned for actual test results. Got a long term relationship and in our 4th year he said he had a bump near the base of his penis, he was too inhibited to show me. And again we were both practical people who were just like ok we both have herpes, get on with life. Over the years he'd occasionally get a bump again and itd go away.

Mid 30's now in another long-term relationship. Disclosed to that who wanted actual proof I had it (kinda weird bc he totally wanted to be with me but wanted the official papers to go with it lol). Did HSV 1, 2, and HPV test. all negative! I don't know what kind of test it was.  I basically told him I believed it was a false negative; I mean I've had outbreaks, prodromols etc!  Went on antivirals bc he didn't want to use condoms ever. 4 years later he had some itching and small bump at the head of his penis. We assumed that yes, he finally got it from me.  Our relationship eventually ended for other reasons.

Hit my 40's, did a bunch of blood tests recently due to other health issues. Asked for HSv/HPV test just for the hell of it.  All negative!  My test info does not have any numbers like I read on here so I can't speak to that. I tried to argue with my dr about false negatives but she is very intimidating and basically cut me off saying "this proves you don't have it" and shut down the conversation

At the end of the day, I know I have to have it. Outbreaks, prodromols, definite classic triggers (chocolate, nuts, stress), and 2 people who appear to have contracted it from me.  I'd like to take the western blot but not interested in paying for something that I know I have.   And I've read other people's stories on here who are in the same boat.  So I just live my life as if I do and always tell my partners. I couldn't in good conscience say I don't have it bc I know I do.

It's strange timing that you wrote this because today I just found on I'm negative on the Western Blot.

Were your bumps sores or just bumps?

Did any of the guys you were with ever test positive for HSV?

I still have the pain in my urethra and urge to pee. Lucky me, my Urologist and their entire office is gone during December.

  4. Update:

After twice testing positive for HSV in April, I tested negative this month.

Also, I've started to have sex for the first time since all of this happened. My glans have been red since April 2018 (the last time I had sex), but now they are becoming extremely red and sensitive to touch after having sex now. There is also a constant tingle in my urethra and the feeling of having to pee after sex. This lasts for 2-3 days.

My glans have not responded to a myriad of creams, and Dermatologists and Urologists have all but given up on me.

    Hello Everyone

I was diagnosed with a swab on my penis head in Jan 2019. I did not have a typical outbreak of genital herpes. No pain, no sore etc. The girl I dated had GHSV1 and she did not disclose. She was diagnosed only a month ago and engaged in sex with me. So she was highly infectious.

I just have a red spot on the head. It is not paining no sore. The first time it appeared I went to the doc and they thought it is not herpes but I insisted to swab and it came back positive for GHSV1. Since then the red spot has not disappeared. It just keeps changing red colour intensity from bright red to light res to pink and then sometimes it is a small red Dot and then flares back again. It has been 8months and this just keeps happening.

I have been to many docs and dermatologist they just say may be it is a scar from the virus or something. It might go away or it might never go away. I just want to know if anyone else has these symptoms at all.

I don't take any medication at all since there is no pain. Can anyone tell me what is going on? @mr_hoppif you can shed some light as to what it might be or where can I head to get accurate treatment or diagnosis

Thank you very much I need help

Any chance you have a photo of this? It sounds similar to what's happening to me.

Hello, I also get tingling and muscle twitches all over my body. My butt constantly hurts. I never had back acne in my life until I got this virus. I get red pimples all over my back, my genital area constantly itches, my legs feel very weak when I'm in resting position. I have been to countless Dr's and they dont know whats wrong with me. It is for sure HSV1. I have tested positive for HSV1 but have had cold sores since I was a child. Negative for HSV2 and all other stds. I believe I got this other form of herpes from an Ex.

I have the same symptoms in the butt and acne on the back.

Hi @Hereforalongtimnotagoodtim! Its good to hear youre in a similar situation re. agreed with partner no use of condoms and thinking about long term meds and in constant fear still. I have accepted that I have it too, and def feel its more the fear of passing it to someone you love. I think we will always feel like that but we can only do our best right? Do you get any weird tingling after sex, or only just the worry after sex? It scares me everytime because I don't know if it is real or if it just irritation from sex messing with my nerves. The only way I know for sure if everything is ok is checking with my partner for a couple of days/week after and I can imagine this can get annoying asking if he's ok daily! I suppose if we keep going with what we are doing we can only trust that its been ok so far and I will start to get over it... Its prob different for everyone but, symptoms were pretty bad for me on long term meds and I was gutted about my hair and how it made me feel, so we agreed I will only use them now for bad outbreaks.I have a couple of packs at the ready whenever I need and this gives me a bit of control too. x

I've not had sex since my proper diagnosis in March, but back when I thought I had HSV (but not testing positive)  sex would bring out a ton of redness on my thighs and above my penis. This would be accompanied by rashes that itched. My scrotum also itched and turned red.

I haven't read through all of your posts, so I may have missed something, but I find it interesting that your symptoms all started after you found out that someone you used to date might have herpes.

Did you ever find out if that person actually does have herpes?

Also, do you think you have ocular herpes? Headaches and dry eye are not common herpes symptoms.

Burning, itching, nerve tingling should improve on antivirals if these symptoms are related to the virus. I don't know what you mean by skin changing colors - like redness?

What specialists have you seen? If you think you have ocular herpes, I hope you have seen an ophthalmologist. For the nerve symptoms, I think you should see a neurologist because it doesn't sound like your symptoms correlate with traditional herpes outbreaks, and a neurologist can help you identify if other pathologies could be causing this, or if you do in fact have nerve issues from herpes.

They tested negative through blood and swab as of last year, but we no longer speaker, so I don't know of her current status. Things didn't start happening because I thought really hard about it; they happened 2 days after sex. The flu-like symptoms and mouth symptoms didn't start until 4 month later after I was exposed to sunlight for hours ( a known trigger for HSV)

My eye doctor sees damage similar to ocular herpes, but doesn't see the strand in my eye. Neither of the 2 ophthalmologists would take swabs of my eye.

In tears of redness, the head of my penis has turned red, and some skin near it has done the same. I also now have little circular red dots that show up on my thighs if I masterbate.

I saw a neurologist and the test were negative, but this was also when I found out I had HSV1 via blood test. He told me has seen patients with HSV who get the tingling in the head, brain fog, and confusion just like I do.

@Tone12 What you describe doesn't sound like herpes. I would still trust the Western Blot.

@blurneworder I noticed in other posts of yours that you have experienced frequent symptoms. Have you tried antivirals and if so, have they helped with any of your symptoms?

Anti virals help with the headaches and dry eye.

It hasn't helped the other symptoms -- burning, itching, skin changing colors, nerve tingling.

  10. 17 hours ago, MarsAttack said:

Same story. Every dermatologist looking at pics and glans never said "yes it's H" but of course I knew very well I never experienced  something like that and I knew what I did in the previous week so... went to test and resulted positive (with mixed/low results in the middle thought).

I add to your advice: yes, if you feel that something happened (and had "risky" intercourses a week or more before), ask for a test. Also I feel like there's still not enough knowledge on hsv2 from doctors since is "rare".

    What exactly is "mixed/low results"?

  11. 36 minutes ago, My_dog_is_hungry said:

Hey beautiful people. Just a quicky. Doc gave me a tonne of aciclovar to "use when you have an outbreak or if your having many outbreaks, use every day".

I don't usually have them but have started getting in the last 6 months. I've been taking the drugs for 2 weeks and feel good and healed, but every time I try to stop taking them I get the telltale butt cheek pain. How long do people usually take then if they just use it for outbreaks? I don't want to use all the time for fear of developing a dependence.

How long does your pain last if you don't take the meds?

  12. 44 minutes ago, TBarr said:

unluckyman/blurneworder have you called the University of Washington and asked to speak with one of the virologists Sent them a detailed email I would like to get their response.

I just took the WB at 4 months and it was negative for hsv2 confirming the igg negative hsv2. Only thing I can think other then I dont make antibodies well for HSV is that I got reinfected with hsv1 genitally. Have had it orally but it is have never caused anything other then 1 outbreak a year and other then the outbreak ZERO symptoms. Not the case since I had the unprotected sex high risk encounter last December.

I have not tried that. I also have not done the Western Blot.

The rheumatologist I saw told me that it's definitely possible that HSV could not be detected in my blood since it doesn't live there.

I have the typical”sores” or as you said, itchy red bumps on genitals ... also from what you mentioned I’m having brain fog/ hard time focusing, cut/chapped lips, small cuts with peeling skin on genitals, constant itching in anus, discoloration on genitals, constant fatigue, strange things going on with my eyes, itchy skin on butt cheeks. All started with intense pain and itching on perineal area. Herpes test was negative

Do your sores swab negative? I don't get the typical sores on the genitals, but I get sore-like acne on my face and back.

I’m right with you guys, tingling in hands and feet, red irritated urethra for months (slight discomfort after urination for months as well), recurring strong leg, back, perineum, and back pain that lasts for weeks, sensitive/burning groin skin, sometimes red patches on penis head (seems to respond to anti fungal), sometimes random shocks/pricks on legs and occasionally at other parts of my body.

i mostly think it’s herpes (even tho no pain when urinating and no sores) cuz this all started after unprotected sex, I’m paranoid, and no doctor has given me a better explanation... other than saying it’s not herpes and it’s in my mind.

Tested negative by blood test at 4 weeks, doctors don’t take herpes as a serious enough option to agree to retesting

I get the same run around. Some doctors tell me to go on living normally. I am almost to the point of seeing if I infect somebody else through sex.

  15. 5 minutes ago, Young&confused said:

Wow okay this is all resonating with me a lot! I have many of these same symptoms as a female and have tested negative for herpes. Big emphasis on pain in Perineal area. I’m not sure either ... but it helps to know we’re not alone

Which of these apply to you?

Why do you think you have herpes?

  16. 1 hour ago, UnluckyMan said:

As much as I’d like to believe otherwise, I’m pretty much 90% certain what I am dealing with is some form of herpes.  Ive had sex plenty of times with several women in my life, none of whom ever told me that they had genital herpes, and I have never experienced any problems like these.  Never in my life.

I attempt to have sex with a woman that is HSV2 positive, and when the condom breaks, I pulled out my penis and I see streaks of her yeasty looking vagina secretions (a symptom of herpes according to Google).  I wiped it off as quickly as I could but the damage was done.  In my mind, i knew I had just made the biggest mistake of my life, and sure enough just a day later, the tingling in my penis starts up.  It hasn’t let up since, and has evolved into a full out burning sensation.  Herpes is the only STD that has an incubation time of 2 days.  All other STDs you won’t notice symptoms immediately.

So out of all the times I had sex, why out all times would it be this extremely brief encounter (I literally pulled my dick out within 5-10 seconds after I stuck it in) that I happen to get infected with some rare bacterial STD?  And why wouldn’t the herpes get in my penis if this other STD was able to?  That seems like a highly unlikely scenario to me.

I’m open to all ideas, and I’ll even ask doctors to look into that mycoplasma as a cause of all my symptoms.  But I’ve heard too many testimonies on these forums of others testing negative by blood tests AND the Western Blot and either swabbing positive for herpes or they just strongly believe it is herpes.  Had this experience not happened to me as well, and if all my symptoms didnt start right after attempted sex with someone I KNOW is HSV2 positive, then I probably wouldn’t believe them either and would be skeptical as well.  But when you’re body is showing you all the signs of a herpes infection (Google even says up to 80% of people don’t get the typical lesions, thats a lot of people), and you stop and wonder why isnt the herpes blood test apart of the routine STD screening, it leaves me with little  faith in the medical community’s ability to safely tell you that you aren’t in fact infected with herpes.

Why is it that the only confirmatory test for herpes is only available in one location in the entire country?

Why is that you have to ask for a herpes blood test specifically, and even my primary doctor herself said she doesnt administer that test because she doesnt think its good at all?

I think people have been lied to and dont realize how faulty the herpes blood tests (including the WB) truly are.  Yes they can work for many, but for many others they give false results.  If false positives exist, and you know they do, why do you have such a hard time believing false negatives exists just as frequently?

Doctor after doctor has told me I dont have herpes, but my symptoms remain.

Why do my lips tingle and burn now?  Why does my genital area itch more often now?  Why do I wake up with a burning penis tip almost everyday?  Why did my armpit lymph node swell up days after the exposure?  Why did I become severely constipated a week after exposure?  Why is my anus constantly itching and burning? Why does my neck tend to get stiff and hurt when the cycle seem to restart?  Why do my arm joints sometimes have sharp pains now?  Why did my nerves go haywire and start to burn all over my body directly following exposure? Why do I get strange random headaches out of nowhere? Why do I have pains down the back of my legs sometimes and itching in my inner thighs when Im walking?

Herpes causes all those things.  But in light of that fact, people continually tell me to believe a blood test that are known to be imperfect.

Its kind of infuriating.  I have been dealing with this for almost a year now.  Ive pissed in more cups and stuck with more needles in the past 9 months than I have in my entire adult life.  They can find no answers.  But deep down I know what it is.  I know that had I not stuck my dick inside that woman that night, I wouldnt be here on this herpes forum right now.

You can have blind faith in a hidden test if you want to... because thats what the herpes blood tests all are...hidden. but I am not the only voice telling you those tests are wrong.  Look elsewhere on the internet and you will find many others sharing my sentiments.

I am in the exact same situation! The only difference is I have met some specialists that admit I probably do have HSV.

  17. I've been told similar things - stress, it's in my head, it's general irritation.

I have itching in the genitals and anus on a daily basis, but no cremes or diagnosis has helped.

I've started to get really painful acne on my face that all come on in a large mass and show up in the same specific areas. Popping them leads to weeks of healing, and then a small scar. I get acne on my back now that does not feel or heal like anything I've had prior to having unprotected oral and vaginal sex.

    Hey, all.

So recently, my partner (male) has revealed to me (female) he has genital herpes.

I'm in love but also, very cautious & kind of frightened by it. I know it's nothing more than a skin condition - I also know there's a risk no matter what - & it doesn't change how I view him. I'm just kind of confused.

A lot of things I've researched have been very conflicting. Some say condoms won't protect it as much or condoms + anti viral medicine will lower it drastically, but then some places say that condoms + medicine only do "so & so much" making it feel like it's inevitable to contract.

Does anybody have any stories where one partner has it, the other doesn't, & how long has it been? & any further advice to avoid it or anything? Sorry if I sound ignorant. I'm relatively new to this & I'm reading up as much as I can

For some, this is not just a skin condition. Some people have daily pain from HSV or multiple outbreaks a month/year. Not everyone's body reacts the same to HSV.

I don't think this is worth having.

Lately both me and my also HSV+ partner noticed a problem. No matter what kinda soap and lotion I use, the skin on my hands is really dry. No sores or anything. Just dry coarse skin. Like after you wash a lot of dishes by hand without a glove. Same for him. I wonder if it could be because of contact with the virus. We of course use our hands in foreplay. Or maybe it’s just the windy weather that came with spring?

I have this same problem on my upper lip. I had the flu in September and soon after had a lot of burning and tingling, and then developed a bunch of tiny white bumps. To this day, only my upper lip stays continually chapped and cut. Nothing helps.

    No positive test results, though.
