Alcohol related Valtrex question

Hey guys, new to this forum and haven't searched around much so I'm sure this question is repetitive but what's the deal with Valtrex (valacyclovir) 1gm and alcohol. I'm on a 2-a-day regimen for 10 days. Can you drink alcohol while on this medication? How long is it in your system? How long after I stop taking it do I have to wait? I'm fine with not drinking, it's just that I have a vacation payed for and planned which starts sept 4th, approximately one week after I have finished the valtrex and it's a much needed vacation, meaning I would really like to be able to relax and drink all day with family and not have to worry about some adverse reaction. Anyone have any stories or experience or advice on this? Thanks for listening.

You might want to check with your own doctor or pharmacist for a professional opinion but my ob/gyn doctor has told me that alcohol does not interfere with the medication nor does it change the efficacy of the drug. I have had a drink or two while on the medication. Enjoy your vacation :)

I've been taking it for two years and it hasn't stopped my enjoyment of an adult beverage that I enjoy quite often (yolo). Hope is right check with your doctor but if I remember my doctor also gave me the green light.

Alcohol is more likely to cause an OB if you overdo it ... there shouldn't be an issue with the drugs but it puts stress on the body and that sometimes allows the virus to gain the upper hand, so I'd say enjoy but don't over-do it ;)

Pharmacist mentioned to me once drinking alcohol and being on antivirals might upset the tummy. I don't drink so can't tell u from experience.

 

Alcohol makes me sleepy.....no fun. :(

Anybody have insight on how long valtrex stays in the body? I've heard around a week sometimes even less?

I know it takes 10 days to build up in your body to consider it working to help reduce transmission for sex.

 

Some people on here have claimed that they get an outbreak within days of stopping antivirals.

Roughly a week - some will have OB's if they go off cold turkey because the body is used to having the meds to help it to keep the virus at bay...
