Ladies help: can douching bring on a herpes outbreak?

Recommended Posts

I've been afraid to douche for a while because I heard it can bring on an outbreak and I recently had a uti is it safe to douche and which product should I get

I used to douche ... don't know why it should bring on an OB.... so I don't see why you shouldn't try it. I'd start with the gentlest one you can find ... and it that works, then try whatever you've used in the past...

I need to chime in here..... herpes or not, the balance of your vagina (flora and fluids) is generally disrupted by douching. it is best to leave your lady parts to cleanse themselves and keep things in balance. Acidophilus supplementation and a healthy diet will keep your "vessel" healthy :).

Trust that your body will cleanse.... it will.

I generally agree - but I've used a mild vinegar douche on occasion to cleanse ... after all, if we put something like a toy or we use KY jelly or whatever down there, that's not "natural" stuff and we may be introducing a lot of things to the area that overloads the bodies' ability to deal with it ... in which case IMO a douche may be useful

And with Herpes, may women are dealing with some kind of discharge ... which means the body is out of balance ... a baking soda douche may help here because if it's an internal OB the BS may help to knock the viral load down a bit.

And I agree 100% - no scented douches ... perfume doesn't belong up there !!!

And YES for taking probiotics (I've heard that douching with them or a good plain yogurt may help restore balance with some issues) :)
