Let’s talk Lysine (and veganism)...anyone??
JeffH replied to Sunshine75's topic in General herpes discussion
Vegan here too and it sucks. I don’t know if my incessant (but mild) outbreaks are partially due to diet. But I’m not going to change my morals because of this. -
Officially diagnosed today with HSV 2 and feeling really crappy
JeffH replied to Kp07's topic in General herpes discussion
It is possible, yes, although it’s unusual. Given the high vale it’s not a mistake, sorry. Also given the bad outbreak and unprotected encounter there’s a good chance this is how you got it. Still, you should get it swabbed, at least to compare the type to your igg. -
You definitely need to get retested at 16
-
Yes, there is a very real chance that is a false positive. False positives are more likely if you have hsv1. Get retested and either tell him what’s happened or abstain in the meantime. Don’t take antivirals before you retest.
-
There is a pretty high chance this is a false positive. Low positives like this are usually false, and it’s even more likely since you don’t have symptoms. There is really no difference between. .97 and 1.08 so I would not say this is a positive trend. Check back in in a couple months and I bet it will be negative.

It is possible to have it in both places if you contracted it around the same time, it doesn't move. It is not hard to imagine that if you have ghsv1 you got oral hsv1 in the same encounter.

If they don't have sores, very low. If they do, quite high, but hsv2 protects against hsv1, so you're okay

Question about how long HSV2 can be undetected
JeffH replied to Kas27's topic in Just found out I have herpes
Yes, you could be finding out about it now. You can't really tell an initial outbreak from a later one, it's mostly a guessing game. If it's a big one it's probably an initial outbreak. Your kids almost certainly don't have it. It's up to you if you think they should be tested. It is possible they have it. Your husband should definitely be tested. Don't be sexually active until your symptoms have been gone for a week (unless he has it too). Lysine is the most commonly taken supplement for herpes -
If your herpes is genital then there is no issue with oral whatsoever

Can herpes be transmitted in swimming pools and lake?
JeffH replied to Scared16's topic in Herpes question(s)
This is not a thing, you did not give anyone hsv2 by swimming with them. Don't worry. -
Tested 10 days after possible infection
JeffH replied to Sooomanyquestions's topic in Herpes question(s)
No, those numbers do not indicate an infection. Almost no one will have numbers literally at 0. You should wait a few weeks and then test again. Your symptoms do sound quite a bit like hsv. -
These are questions for the woman who performed this test. We cannnot tell what test she performed. Based on her response it was possibly the cheaper igm test, which cannot differentiate between different strains of herpes. You should ask to see the results. In the future you should get an igg blood test

Ocular herpes is not common and there may not be anyone frequenting this site with personal knowledge. Id talk to your doctor as soon as you can, see if he or she could recommend someone with expertise

Unless you have reason to believe you were recently infected this is far more likely to be a false positive than a true positive, so you should feel good about your chances.. Do not have sex until your next test.

It is not true that they have a higher chance of dying in a car accident or winning the lottery than contracting hsv2 sexually Actually it is true, if you are using condoms or antivirals there is only a 2% chance of transmission, which equates to having a higher chance of winning the lottery or dying in a car accident. The point is, HSV is nothing to worry about for majority of people. Believe me I did not come to this conclusion easily. When I was diagnosed I felt my life was over, I was a leper, no one would ever love me again and I just wanted to crawl into a hole and die. So my use of the Adam ruins everything video it to remind people that herpes is not the end of your life. It's time to end this unwarranted stigma! And by the way, I've never had or heard of one person disclose before kissing. And since I have no idea where my entry point is, because I've never had an outbreak, I'm suppose disclose for giving someone a peck on the cheek? Or even a hug where my cheek touches theirs? See though you DO know where you have it. Hsv 2 is not hsv1. Its pretty much always in the genitals. If you want to dispute that and say oh but I don't know for sure - it doesn't matter. Theres no logical jump from "I don't know where I have it" to "ok I don't have to disclose!" Also...I really don't know what you're talking about man. You don't have a 2% annualized chance of winning the lottery, or dying in a car crash. Even your lifetime numbers are nowhere near that

If infected with hsv2 down below can you still get it later orally?
JeffH replied to Mssela's topic in Herpes question(s)
It's very nearly impossible. Also, herpes normally does not appear on the inside of the lip - that's usually a canker sore. Still, if I were you I wouldn't do that again. -
You do not have herpes
-
There is a good chance you don't have herpes. There is also a decent chance you do have herpes. You can decide what you do with your life. I know if I were in your shoes, I'd be purchasing a few more igg tests, and looking into the western blot, even though it's a lot of work.

There's no test that can tell when you contracted the infection. The only time when there is convincing evidence that an infection was recently acquired is when one partner tests positive on an igg and another tests negative and then positive later, provided the originally negative partner has only been with the positive partner in the last six months. This test is called the igg. It is possible your boyfriend tested positive on the igm. Many people falsely believe that the igm test indicates a recent infection. Before anything else, you need to find 1) what test he got and 2) what he tested positive for. You also need to get an igg test yourself, since it sounds like this has already become the blame game.
