  1. @MMissouri I'm not sure to be honest.. the blisters on the affected finger don't even open.. trapped under thick skin. Haha, not yet but maybe soon :P
  2. I'd say hold off giving out kneejobs for a little while. I believe I've had OBs on my ankle and finger, but didn't get them swabbed. Finger is arguably worse than it spreading to your mouth, especially as a guy.. I wasn't on meds though, and it all happened around the time of diagnosis. I'd have thought it was more likely that you caught it there from your giver 2 years ago, and it just hasn't surfaced since then.
  3. She can't get it from a toilet seat, and I'd argue that a bug bite there isn't unusual (or a million other types of sore). How did you get your diagnosis, and what type was it? Just try to calm down, don't get yourself worked up - from what youve said, it's almost impossible.
  4. I'd imagine it comes from more information, meaning people are in a better position to disclose to potential partners, and they're doing a good job of it (and possibly more often with the likes of Tinder). Social acceptance doesn't happen overnight, but this one has really been drawn out - over decades, with speed bumps along the way like national scare campaigns. The guy on 9gag took it the wrong way, but possibly the people who replied are among many who've been disclosed to in the past.
  5. We are on the cusp of a revolution with regards to herpes. Mark my words. I agree - the younger generations seem to be getting the idea now. Check out this I saw on 9gag.. the OP is clearly a douche, but I bet he didn't expect his meme to get shot down by the - surprisingly well informed - general public the way it did. Scroll to the comments from half-way down the page.. http://9gag.com/gag/aM9b6ex/i-ll-just-be-making-my-way-back-to-the-friend-zone
  6. Could be a number of minor things. HIV is one of the least likely, but worrying about it could be a contributing factor. Low in certain vitamins or lacking something in your diet, an everyday infection that you barely notice (if your immune system is fighting OBs, it's quite easy to let something else take a hold) If your GUM clinic doesn't help, go to the next closest one. If they're still funny about it, you can have mine!
  7. Go to the nearest gum clinic, say your body isn't coping with the virus well and you're having continuous outbreaks. They ought to give you a 3 month supply of suppressive meds free of charge. I have plenty that I don't use currently.
  8. This happened to me, but I also read it is quite rare. First sign was - I had a black patch appear on the affected cuticle to begin with, a couple of weeks after the event.. I think my chances were higher though because I actually had torn cuticles and she had only recently caught the virus. In general it's probably very unlikely.
  9. A year already, damn! Glad your trip's going/went well and you've bossed the stigma :)
  10. JB, respect to you for coming here and building an informed opinion. Seems like the previous posts have covered pretty much everything, but I'll make or repeat a few points. Has she had the virus long? If it's a recently acquired thing, you may be at a slightly higher risk of catching it, but still minimal. Since you mentioned the damage from previous disclosures, I'm guessing it's been a while now. You're right to say she's a strong person, her heart is clearly in the right place. I like the motorbike analogy, and the fact that you ride one says that you choose to enjoy life even if there is risk involved. One part of the hsv re-education we all faced here - anyone is fair game for hsv.. We shouldn't associate herpes with particular people or lifestyles because it can happen to anybody. I took every precaution I could, and was far from promiscuous. Main thing I want to say is - 80% of the potential effect of hsv is removed if you are made aware beforehand. Anybody here will tell you that stress affects our outbreaks, but I'd go as far to say I was traumatised when I first found out. Probably half of my symptoms were psychosomatic from the panic stage I went through. Couple of years later, I'm absolutely fine and couldn't care less about the physical side of the condition. I'd be pretty confident approaching future partners too. It's the punch you don't see coming that's the knockout shot.
  11. My opinion: if you don't feel the need to pee, don't! I have read that Valtrex causes dehydration, and it's recommended to drink more water.. your body must just be using more in other ways.
  12. Everyone here has said something in anger because of this, there's even personal vengeance threads. Glad you got to get your story out, I think it helps a lot. I take it you haven't told anybody, even your sisters friend or the girl you slept with?
  13. It only happened for a while though, disappeared over time..
  14. Yes there was a time early on when I would go every 20 minutes. Made the daily drive to and from work difficult!
  15. @BoatyMcBoatface Looks like you're gonna have to change your username btw :( www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-36225652 I was hoping for BMcBF too..
  16. Damn, that was a creative way of venting.. I wouldnt normally read a full post that long, but 2nd summer is a good idea for a track (if it was less specific to herpes). Maybe 3rd summer could be about your transformation and growing from what's happened. But the amount of pussy most rappers get, you think you're the only musician with herpes? Plus, I never got what's so bad about condoms.. Never felt as much difference as most people make out. Hanging out with friends doesn't have to change.. The point in hanging is the same as it ever was, but now you should be able to appreciate them and other little things more. You can chill out, smoke up, rate girls or whatever - they don't have to know about that little thing at the back of your head. I think you should keep focusing on your music, you're sound, and lotta girls love hard to get anyway.
  17. This link helps when you start thinking about per-act percentages: http://herpeslife.com/herpes-forum/discussion/5255/from-dr-peter-leone-herpes-transmission-risk-per-sex-act-explained/p1
  18. My giver's last partner had only just caught it, didn't realise or say at the time. It was four months later that I slept with her with protection.. she didn't realise or say at the time either. Both transmissions were almost instant (caused by a few instances of sex). So it was two occasions that have swayed my opinion - plus listening to my body and judging from symptoms during my first 6 months, it seems pretty obvious that I'm in a much better position now. Sure every individual case is different, but I think it's a fair assumption in general.
  19. Do you have a policy of getting in touch and paying for their tests 3 months later?
  20. I'd be surprised if it's that high, but I am convinced that we're more likely to transmit the virus during the first year, but first few months especially.
  21. That's a stinger.. good job he showed his true colours though right? If you were only diagnosed a week ago, I'd have thought you could use some time to look after yourself and put a pause on dating for a while. Or do you think you've had it a long time and just didn't realise?
  22. True, you'll be fine - I think we all look back later and admit we overreacted. You might never have an outbreak at all, but at least you can keep an eye out in case. There's also a decent chance you had it before meeting him, since 1 in 5 carry the virus and 1 in 5 of those have any symptoms. Even if you do have an ob, it could be in an area that isn't in the way when you pee, in which case I've found they're pretty painless. I took the antivirals when I used to get outbreaks, but haven't touched them for the past year. Since you've never had an ob, I'd have thought the Valtrex was for in case you do get one.. But if you take them every day for a long period (suppressive therapy) , then you stop - I think this can help to trigger one. Hope we don't lose a social butterfly over this, just call it a time out.
  23. Think optimist is right as usual, especially on the micro-tearing point. I'm uncircumsised, but my OBs occur(red) far away from that area, so I'm not sure that was the 'point of entry'.
